  • @marc1bb

It's just a comedic version of the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

  • I love this film so much <3

  • DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DA NA NA

  • THIS IS CRAP AND I HATE IT

  • Ary Barroso's 1939 song "Aquarela do Brasil" ("Watercolor of Brazil", often simply "Brazil") in a version specifically performed by Geoff Muldaur is the leitmotif of the movie. (Wikipedia)

  • There are better quality versious of this on youtube.

  • Strange to get De Niro in a movie and then not mention him in the trailer....

  • for obvious reasons they don't say it but it is evident that this IS a satyre of Brazil and his paranoia of terrorism planted by the "Advisers of the CIA" to the brazilian governmant...impossible dreams, always currently using obsolete technology, tyranical police that sounds nice...etc etc....but above all the sound track is superb...

  • @marc1bb This is like Brazil on the 1980 (I born was 82). Unfortunelly after the President Lula (Luis Inacio da Silva) the Brazil turn like it again... Very like it. The Police, the torture (no physical, but psycological) and the no brain mentality of the state (in the police and the structure of the federal governament).

  • Actually, the movie is called "Brazil" after the popular song of the 50s or 60s. The song is about the fantasy of going to a different country and living a different life, which is what Sam Lowery does in his dreams. A great movie about the power of the mind in a horrible world, and also how that power keeps us from political action. Watch the Gilliam cut, though, and not the happy ending hollywood fiasco.

  • Its like 1984 but funny

  • Great rare trailer, it's not on the Criterion DVD. It's a cool and nice fantasy comedy epic movie that screams "Monty Python" all the way. Sort of a cross between "Blade Runner", "The Fifth Element" and even "V For Vendetta".

  • Oh and a bit of "Barberella" thrown in.

  • not understand why this film is called Brazil

  • It may not have anything to do with the country but perhaps the song and even the metropolis in this movie is inspired by the country of Brazil.

  • Só podia ser criação estrangeira isso aí.

  • Brazil is probably the most disturbing feature film ever made. Terrorists everywhere in a police state, check out the kids in Shangri-La Towers.

  • Not that bad, if you want disturbing check out "Cannibal Holocaust", "Urotsukidoji", "Maniac" and other sicko stuff.

  • Screw those, they're all fake. But a world like in 'Brazil' is genuinely something we should be scared of.

  • I saw this film some time ago... dunno why but I somehow get this strange feeling watching it like I did with 12 Monkeys... yet I appreciate the effects and visuals of a Gilliam film (seeing the trailer the first time, I wondered how they got the budget for such a set for the torture room, till I realised they used a power station chimney interier. Amazing... :o ).

Still, I guess I liked it that way oddly. The final act, especially the ending, is crazy shit. :S

  • This is the best trailer, I love how the music sort of breaks in, then just stops. Really cool trailer and film overall, Gilliam's so cool.

  • I'm getting the DVD tomorrow (for Christmas!!) and I can't wait!!! Brazil is one of Gilliam's finest! :D

  • yeah 1984 equalibrium brazil all same story all trying to warn us.

  • to quote fiona apple, caution could but rarely ever helps. anything that these films were trying to warn us about are upon us now. the message has been received to late.

  • I don't agree there. I think this English tralier is much more in tune with the spirit or the feeling of the film than the American trailer. Plus I like how it leaves it to the viewer to add "keywords" for what this film is like. Anyhow: it's a very good film!

  • Remember which one? I must say I prefer the American one. It had more self-assurance. This one gives too much away.

  • Wow! Where did you get this from?

  • I found this on an old 80's video tape. (I used to work in a video shop)

  • It's on the DVD release of Brazil...

  • I just checked the Criterion 3 Disc version... and its not.

  • Not on the Criterion version...

  • This is on the R2 and R4 DVDs.
