Here's the trick, with my 85 hermit, you know that it alternates from buffing magic attack up and damage reflection. I go berserk after damage reflection goes off so I can kill it fast.--because magic attack is next.

I think you might have been lagging, but it was most definitely Damage Reflection that killed you. If you look carefully at 0:05 - 0:07, you'll see her hold her sword in the air and a swirl of light surrounds her. That's the animation for Damage Reflection, and if you notice right after that, a purple symbol appears over her head. That's how you know it's active(and also why your attacks only did 1 dmg there). It usually lasts 10 seconds, sometimes less.
