@Truemoderate All German manufacturers entered into a gentlemen agreement to restrcit their top speed of their cars to 155MPH to prevent a potentially expensive "arms race" for top speed performance.

Porsche was included in this agreement but chose to leave the agreement and not have a top speed limiter in their production cars.

MBZ and BMW are currently still in the agreement for practicality and liability reasons. Regardless, the speed limiter can be removed by most tuners if you want.

Yeah, that's pretty much the definition of forced. An engine should not have to be revved that high to get it's power. Although I do like the sound of high revving V10s and V12s. V8s just don't sound good revved high, it's not what they were made for.

The reason F1 teams use V8 engines is because they HAVE to, and the reason they rev high is because they need as much horsepower as they can get, because they're limited to 2.4 litres. And no, the limit is actually 18kRPM. And no, your way is a flawed way to look at it. Revving engines high makes the power curve messed up, low revving engines have power at nearly all times. High revving engines also don't have that much torque compared to their lower revving counterparts.

For instance, a comparable engine to this in the BMW M3 is the LS3 V8 in the Corvette. They both have similar horsepower, but in the LS3 the power curve is much flatter, and you get A LOT more torque. If you put an LS3 in an M3, it would accelerate quite a bit faster.

LS3:

HP: 430hp

Torque: 426 ft lbf

M3:

HP: 414hp

Torque: 295 ft lbf

Not to mention, the LS3 also gets much better fuel efficiency. Up to 36mpg highway. Can't say the same for the M3's V8.

I'm big Supra fan so i won't comment american or european V8's because i'm drived in few V8 and i can say, nothing last forever. Charger V8, Pontiac V8....problem....10MPG top...also heavy tanks...with much power and no comfort of sport spirit. 850i...man...i doesn't like BMW's but there's no better american car than BMW, believe me. BMW is the icon of sport.

There are many American V8s that get great gas mileage, and I mean great. The LS2 V8 which Chevrolet Produces has about the same power as this, but can get up to 34mpg highway. And no, there are tons of cars better than BMW, American or not. Spirit is a very loosely used term, you can't really use it to define a car since it's purely opinion. Not to mention Corvettes have great ride, especially with the magnetic shocks.

Every single LS engine has been naturally aspirated up until the ZR1.

Let's compare two engines with similar power, the LS3 V8 and the M3 E92 V8. They both have similar power, but the LS3 gets much better gas mileage (up to 36mpg highway) and runs on less RPMs, which prolong the life of the engine. No, most BMW engines have to be serviced frequently and aren't generally known for their reliability.

I'm honestly not even sure why you Euro queers are always thinking of every possible way to put down American cars. The ZR1 and Dodge Viper ACR are two of the quickest production cars to ever see the Nurburgring. Heaps faster around it than even a Veyron.

Then for straight line speed, America makes the fastest production car. You can be a ricer, and worry about sound though!
