Since this is the last part, I don't think people will mind this spoiler - I've seen this a few times, but I never realized until seeing it again recently that the reason Railsback's character was never turned into a walking zombie was because he too was a vampire. That's why you see him and Mathilda May's 'spirits' ascend into the spaceship after he impales the both of them. As the movie mentions earlier, the bodies are just vessels, and they can move from body to body.

@phillydisco I think this movie is okay. The main reason to watch is Mathilda May, for sure. They should have made one or two sequels with just her. None of the other characters would have to be in it. They could have had the sequels set in America, or set in a different time, like in ancient history. Since Mathilda May's character took her body image from something in Carlsen's mind, maybe she was someone his vampire self knew many years earlier in a previous incarnation.

i was kinda picturing the when carlson staps the lady vampire and him too and both of their lifeforce causes a chain reaction, then then returns to the spaceship the causes and maxiumum overload of their energy then the ships exploses in space..then caine sees the exeplosine in space..then he know's why carlson did what he had to do to stop her.

Besides do you think since these aliens were the origins of vampire, zombie and succubus myths that Dracula came from them as well? This movie with The Hunger, Def By Temptation, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, Near Dark and other unusual from the Dracula stereotype movies prove that Edward Cullen and his unusual family aren't the only "different" vampires shown on film?

As near as I've been able to determine, both Carlsen and the space girl return to the main ship where they promptly energize all the remaining pods . . . thus setting up the scene for a repeat performance when the comet returns in 2061.

This movie starts out like a space opera with the opening title, then becomes a 2001-meets-Alien movie, then a weird vampire/detective flick and finally a zombie/Quartermass film

with an amazingly hot naked girl, of course

This is a fantastic movie. Don't believe what the critics said. See for your self how good it really is. Space Vampires out to destroy the world, fast zombies, a world ending threat with great special effects. It has always been one of my favorites.

I would have gone with the girl to her ship to be with her - always. I don't belong on Earth. I saw a comet once in back in 1997and it will be the only comet that I will ever see. Words couldnt describe how rare - it would be another thousand years before it will pass by our Solar System again. Back in '97 when I saw the comet, it was the most beautiful thing I 'd ever seen. If I was Carl I would've left Earth to be with her.

I first saw this when I was maybe 8 or 9 years old. It made a lasting impression on me although I would not see it for almost 15 years. I bought a copy when Coconuts was going out of business for 5 bucks, and I have seen it many times since then. It is a mess, a horrible mess (even if not compared to the book ). But despite this, it is fun to watch. The effects are pretty good and the scoring by Mancini is tops. Thanks for sharing!
