This Qawaali should be taken light heartedly. If you take the wording of the Qawaali by the letter then it would be Blasphemy.

If anyone other than God was worthy of worship then it would be Prophet of Islam; but even he died because he was just a human.

So do not try to seek any deep meaning in the words of this Qawaali.

The gist of the Qawaali is that only a mad man would prefer the love of temporary things to the Eternal love of God.

Mad, because he can not make up his mind.

I am a very openminded sufi(following naqshbandi tariqa), but even I am not sure about this one! Which ever way I try and intreprate this qawali I end with one conclusion-blasphemous. God on one side and you lover on the other?- no comparison. Allah has no competition....A person shouldn't be thinking twice...would be good to see the opinions of other sufis too...

I can understand your concerns... as of others with similar opinions. I can only say in defense of this beautiful song - that only if one has been in true love can one see the complete mirror images of each other than God and Love are... I hope and wish that you also find your love, your god.

The wording of this Qawwali borders on Blasphemy. The last part 9.20 to 9.25 says that God gets upset if he goes to his "friend". This is in contrast with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khans "Wohi Khuda Hai" song. I prefer the latter one.

Wohi Khuda Hai is saying that there is someone who is running the world and that someone is God.

This one says that God gets upset when I go to the friend. It is not blasphemous; it depends on the interpretation. Of course God is going to be upset / unhappy when rather than going to worship God, you go and see the "friend" at the time of prayer. You are comparing apples and oranges - both qawwali's have are different in concept.

I had the surreal experience of listening to this INCREDIBLE Sufi qawwali in a cab riding in the middle of the night to SFO airport, the cabbie - also from India like me - explaining to me line by line (since I don't understand Punjabi).... One of the most romantic songs I have ever heard! I wonder if there is a live performance or a video recording of this song? There is another one in the same album - Pawde Dhade Ishqe de - something like that. OUTSTANDING song. Nyway, thank you for this!
