This song instantly takes me back to Junior and Senior year at El Dorado High School. Coffee Shops, bonfires at Newport Beach, playing James Bond...innocent, sober fun and laughter and love.
i feel like the indigo girls have such a secure grasp on what life is about. They have so much depth. They portray the light and the dark so well. Conceptually they deliver the yin and yang so poetically.
I'm very grateful for my sister who introduced me to them about 16 years ago. We both love them so much and I've only seen them live once but i'm glad it was with her
Thanks for posting. Growing up in the South and a teen in the late 80's -early 90's , IG were like a religion to us. Hard to explain what they meant to us. I wonder what the kids listen to today... IG were so raw, passionate, even desperate at times. Beautiful time to grow up (took for granted what seems now a very unique and genuine period of music making). :)
this has been sampled by a rave/old skool outfit called Crystal Vortex, on here search Crystal Vortex - Raging Dreads and you will hear the opening to Secure Yourself along with a nice choir :) this version is so different from the remix. Its funny where people get there sample ideas from
I played this song in high school on guitar while my ex-girlfriend and another girl sang at our band and chorus concert. It really moved people, it was awesome looking out from the stage as a 17 year old.
my first college g.f. loved this stuff...the chick dumped me without ever letting me get past 2nd base. Nothing brings back my my blue-balled, early 90's, jalopy driving, unemployed college kid life like this song. :(
They are both just so beautiful to me, inside and out. I had the privilege of seeing them at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC back in '89. This hetero male cried like a baby much of the concert. Blood and Fire is my favorite by this talented, real and beautiful duo.
Seriously, dude. I've seen guys get dragged by their girls to IG concerts and the guy is just mesmerized by the music or very moved by it. Most people write the IG's off and never give them a chance. If you play the music and then tell them who is singing, you create an instant fan.

I may be the only member of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" that loves the Indigo Girls. Genius is genius.
