hey man, how's the viewfinder of the ae-1? Is it pretty similar to the ae-1 program? Coz I heard the ae-1 program's viewfinder is excellent. I'm not too sure about the original ae-1... Anyway, I'm getting mine pretty soon and can't wait to use it! Any tips for a first time ae-1 user? :)
how do you double expose pictures with this camera? i just got the canon ae-1 today but im not sure how to play around with double exposure. i dont even know where that button is.
@justdozal Yes, they were originally developed by ASA and later incorporated into ISO standards, so ASA and ISO are interchangeable with respect to film speed.
Thank you. I haven't used my AE-1 for a long time and today I was gonna load my film and realized that I forgot how to set the ISO, hahah. Thanks Thanks.
hey man thanks for these videos- I have been doing so many things worng till I saw your videos- question- what happens if the iso speed is not set properly? will the pictures come out darker or something?
@bboyrudebwoy The ISO speed only affects the meter readings, so your meter will measure wrong. If you set the dial faster than the film speed, it will underexpose. If you set it lower, it will overexpose. You can do this intentionally and then 'push' or 'pull' the film in development to get certain effects. A common technique in low-light is shooting 400 film at 1600, and developing it much longer.
I have a Canon AE-1 and 400 speed film, I am not entirely sure what to set the camera to as I am pretty new to this camera, the 'numbers' on the dial are as follows. Program(in green) 1000, 500, 250, 125, 60(with the flash symbol), 30, 15, 8, 4, 2, 1, 2(again but in orange), and last is the letter B. Help? /:
Those numbers (1000,500...1,2,B) are the shutter speed, as used in Lesson 5. To set the ISO speed you need to look for the black ring that's underneath the shutter speed. The selected ISO speed is visible through a little window on the shutter seed dial. As you rotate it, you should see these numbers: 1600,800,400,200,100...
@mrmekon I just acquired this camera from my grandfather. Still trying to figure it out. I actually have a question for you. I still cannot find the "black ring that's underneath the shutter speed." All I have is a silver ring and it won't pull up. How do I change the ISO speed?
Yours might be on a black ring on the left side labeled "ASA". That's how it is on my AL-1, and it looks like the AE-1 Program is similar. There is definitely an ISO ring somewhere on it.
On the AL-1, instead of pulling the ring up you push the little button next to it down to unlock it.
Hey question, what is the black think on the back of the camera? the think that looks like a black screen?

can you set your ISO without loading the film first? Or is it necessary to load the film first to be able to movie the ISO ring?

Found it, on the Canon AE-1 Program it's on the left side on the black ring around the crank for the film.
