Chinesepod is run by criminals and isn't worth using. There are better and cheaper sites out there. All you have to do is look: CSLPod, Chinese Learn Online and Visual Mandarin just to name a few.
The contents of this lesson are very good and much to the point. However this lesson is not for absolute beginners, so it is both a shame and rather confusing not to use Chinese characters along with pinyin. Once you get used to Characters your reading is infinitely better than with just pinyin. And this is also true for absolute beginners.
