(watch her old tapes, I'm sure some are online here) She doesn't dance like a robot like britney, gaga and janet do, she has her own style because she combines the beauty of ballet that Pearl Lang taught her (same teacher who taught the legendary Pina Bausch) so don't tell me gaga is a better dancer than M

I have mad respect for Madonna, but I don't understand why this performance is considered so legendary. There's no planned choreo at all and to be honest she seems kind of drunk. She's done so many better performances than this.
This was actually tame if you compare this to performers like Wendy O. Williams from that time. The aftermath of punk transformed the boundaries for women in music. You had female performers acting in a much less inhibited way and singing about formerly taboo subjects, but a huge stage like MTV didn't exist. To get any mainstream acceptance before MTV they had to mellow their approach. You saw a gradual breaking down of limitations, but it helped to have a more visible platform.

I have mad respect for Madonna, but I don't understand why this performance is considered so legendary. There's no planned choreo at all and to be honest she seems kind of drunk. She's done so many better performances than this.

This was actually tame if you compare this to performers like Wendy O. Williams from that time. The aftermath of punk transformed the boundaries for women in music. You had female performers acting in a much less inhibited way and singing about formerly taboo subjects, but a huge stage like MTV didn't exist. To get any mainstream acceptance before MTV they had to mellow their approach. You saw a gradual breaking down of limitations, but it helped to have a more visible platform.

@cheez78910-Williams was a media sensation in 81/82. Blondie had videos from 78 that didn't shy away from sexuality and got hammered by the media on the subject. (The Maripol designed wedding dress here was directly lifted from Debbie Harry.) You had Jett, the Go Gos, Benatar, Lauper, etc. Even the idea for the song was just continuing on the adult theme of songs like Call Me or Physical. It's all building on prior images.

@ihasch so why is it that basically all madonna fans are saying it is "her thing" to push the boundaries when so many people had done it before her? why is it such a crime for lady gaga to be pushing the boundaries of pop music? why is it considered "unoriginal" when in reality, doesn't it make madonna unoriginal?
