I stand corrected. You have to tap the O button INCREDIBLY Fast. if you have big muscular fingers, just give up and get a rapid fire controller.

Definitely a glitch. When I do this Kratos hugs the mast while pulling the Hyrda and therefor the hydra will not break the mast. There does not seem to be a way around it. This guide is not helpful at all.

I have same problem. It has nothing to do with not tapping the "O" button. There seems to be a glitch in the game. It will not let me position the character in such a way to push the head into the mast. I don't think the person who shot the video is even aware of how to position the character so that the head hits the mast. He is just getting lucky. Not very helpful at all.

@skorch82 does it piss you off at all that these game developers didn't have any of those others survive? and if kratos is such a damn good hero, then he should've saved them, and he should've capable of it to. it's extremely annoying since these game developers and the movie makers of the 2010 movie clash of the titans seems to have a problem with side characters surviving... it pisses me off. am i the only one who feels that way about it?

a tip. exacly when hes about to bite u, u can use poseidons rages and he will automaticaly get stuck and u be bale to ALOT of hits before he gets back to his normal patterns again :)

I am playing the PS3 version of God of War part 1, however I follow the onscreen instructions to kill the main hydra, but it doesn't work. The screen prompts me to first press CIRCLE and keep tabbing the CIRCLE button again, I follow the instructions however Kratos is pushed towards the pole. The first time the CIRCLE is pressed, Kratos gets hold of the Hydra, but subsequent tapping of the CIRCLE button doesn't work. Can someone please help?

@skorch82: I has nothing to do with tapping. Many people are not physically capable of hitting the button fast enough, especially those with large fingers or arthritis. You have to get a rapid fire controller.

@majesticlizard you really don't have to hit the button all that fast. If you have arthritis, chances are, you aren't going to be able to play many video games effectively anyways. This particular game however, is a lot more strict in how you complete the context sequences. Later games improved the timing window.

@skorch82: I dug a rapid fire controller out of the closet and beat the game in less than an hour, so I'd have to call bullshit on that. The hydra sequence (and several others) are just about mashing buttons. There are aspects of the game that require picking up a sequence or exact timing, but those are not what are giving people trouble. Its the button mashing sequences. This is fairly well known.

if you hold the block button when he roars and you won't go off the edge.

and if you jump when he roars then hit the block button, you fly back just to the edge then float there until the roar stops and then fall onto the edge without going over.

uh scorch another thing u can when the hydra roars is guard he wont blow u away. oh andtry rotatting the anolog stick

when you have to move it back and forth. trust me it works

and its quicker.
