WMP is a clunk piece of SH*T. Very unituitive, struggles to file FLAC format, and doesn't fully support it. The interface is clumsy; it is hard to find the things you want to do easily.

Chris, I agree that RSS feeds should be available. I think there are two significant improvements. First, file management is improved expecially through Vista. Secondly, WMP 11 has WM Lossless. I am told that in Version 12, it will also be DLNA certified.

I have wmp 9 and i notice that files played from it get a lot of static added to it when playing, but when i play the flv version of them in a flash player, they sound much clearer....
maybe its the file types....but even changing the equalizer in wmp 9, you still can't get the full potential out of music files played from it.
Don't worry, You will get wmp 12 in few months. It's compact, supports more format, including iTunes library and Quick Time format. It will be great. Not the best...I think...but certainly better

11 is coo suz u can rip cd's in WAV form and turn around and burn them for backup cd's, but even then it don't rip correctly, and sometimes the track names and order are wrong. keep up tha video's mayn

Next morning ( today ) I opened my list (waited for it to load) and then I saw: 650:27:32 at the bottom (i got a skin that tells me). And that's every time i safe and load again. Now: How can i safe more on .wpl or how can i update the maximum? I just want to have the full 700 hours in my list! :(

I am sorry but I personally could never really get on with Win Amp, I always thought it's UI was cluttered and somewhat complicated! Two things missing from WMP, Ipod support and RSS support. Other than that I think M$ have got it pretty much bang on.
At the end of your video there is an alert sound from vista.... and i thought that was coming from my computer as i was downloading a large file and thought that has failed
To watch dvd's on my computer I usually use Hp QuickPlay. Not to be confused with QuickTime. It works pretty well for me. It comes with all HP Laptops

iTunes is the best media player ive ever used. "It just works" unlike WMP and Real Player. Also it seems to be the only Media player that is able to name CD's correctly as well. WMP is awful at that.
winamp has been becomming more and more bloated since version ~5, i have actualy started to use 11 for music, winamp for radio and vlan for video.
As a music mainger i definaly prefere 11 over winamp and iTunes, iTunes best feature is that you can buy drm free files other ethen that it can go to hell.
I used to use winamp for audio and WMP for video, but then I just figured i'd uninstall winamp and just use WMP9 for all media. I like the library and Album Cover Features.

WinAmp Classic... WMP is useless unless you need to get rid of some ram fast and slow down everything else... its a huge program and a huge window on your screen, when all you need is play, stop, EQ, playlist and more settings to tweak.
i agree with "leftofleft" microsoft sometimes decides what you want. i don't think wmp11 on xp has any point....i use winamp and love it! sometimes winamp with the vista wmp skin, it's even transparent

Oh yeah, I use the newest Jet Audio Plus. It plays all my HD videos perfectly. Every other player sucks. It plays ALL files even quicktime files, its just amazing =)
I upgraded to Win Media Player 11 on XP, but I have to remove the URGE player, cause I really don't need the extra space for nothing. Other than upgrading to have a cool skin, rather than the classical look, should be done, or simply click on the Help menu bar and click on Update.
I really have no problem with WMP... I play music and watch videos on it. Sometimes files don't work [which is frustrating] so I'll just open in something else... I guess I'll have to try out WinAmp

I would suggest Media Player Classic or VLC just because of the capability to play almost any file under the sun and the simple interface.
I also suggest using Winamp instead of iTunes if you're using an iPod.

No, because WMP10 is god. Resistence is futile.
Plus WMP11 takes up way more memory. The press/play buttons are screwed up. The layout of everything got flip flopped.
And WMP10 was easier to read :D.

I am sorry but I personally could never really get on with Win Amp, I always thought it's UI was cluttered and somewhat complicated! Two things missing from WMP, Ipod support and RSS support. Other than that I think M$ have got it pretty much bang on.

when making a highMAT audio cd, it seems to just ignore my list and alphabetically orders all my songs which sucks...
Is there any way to sort the music list in a highMAT audio cd?

At the end of your video there is an alert sound from vista.... and i thought that was coming from my computer as i was downloading a large file and thought that has failed

To watch dvd's on my computer I usually use Hp QuickPlay. Not to be confused with QuickTime. It works pretty well for me. It comes with all HP Laptops

I love wmp just cuz I can do everything in it, video, music, tv, pictures and when Im playing music, and doing something else I just minimize it to the bar and have all commands I need right there.

realplayer and quicktime a re so fucking gay. i used winamp for a while but it just started to suckass.itunes is retarded(REALLYRETARDED) and the sound quality is awful. windows media player does suck just a little bit sometimes but its my pick

WMP 11 works perfectly fine on my computer, though it did come with the laptop because it was already on the with windows vista

i use Nero showtime for my media files but i have used Windows media player i like the skin it has but apart from that it is the same as 9-10.

iTunes is the best media player ive ever used. "It just works" unlike WMP and Real Player. Also it seems to be the only Media player that is able to name CD's correctly as well. WMP is awful at that.

Windows media player 11 is great, how ever I mainly use VLC media player with a WMP 11 skin cause it can play anytihng.

WMP 11 imo is alot better then 10.
winamp has been becomming more and more bloated since version ~5, i have actualy started to use 11 for music, winamp for radio and vlan for video.
As a music mainger i definaly prefere 11 over winamp and iTunes, iTunes best feature is that you can buy drm free files other ethen that it can go to hell.

I used to use winamp for audio and WMP for video, but then I just figured i'd uninstall winamp and just use WMP9 for all media. I like the library and Album Cover Features.

Windows Media Player is not so bad as you said.
Windows Media Player + VLC (x264 is the best Codec at the moment) is the best choice.

MPlayer is good for Linux. On MS Windows, MediaPlayerClassic (using FFDShow) & sometimes VLC (for viewing FLV etc.) is good.

lol.... i dont find it crappy, lol its just the same as the old ones. Maybe for bumr055 it slows down his/her pc, but not for me. maybe its just my computer coz i got a: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 on 2 gb RAM with a geforce 8800 gtx.Maybe the windows media player vista versio is different to the xp version...

WinAmp Classic... WMP is useless unless you need to get rid of some ram fast and slow down everything else... its a huge program and a huge window on your screen, when all you need is play, stop, EQ, playlist and more settings to tweak.

i agree with "leftofleft" microsoft sometimes decides what you want. i don't think wmp11 on xp has any point....i use winamp and love it! sometimes winamp with the vista wmp skin, it's even transparent

i'm surprised nobody has mentioned the K-Lite codec pack... it works on vista with an altered version of MPclassic.. unfortunately, so far i haven't had any luck getting VLC/vista/divx setup just right(like in XP)... i'll see you at------------------------------ chris.pirillo{.}com/live/----------------------

I have a problem with WMP on 2 vista systems, near the end of the song it lags for like 3 seconds then continues with the end of the song. is this normal?

Oh yeah, I use the newest Jet Audio Plus. It plays all my HD videos perfectly. Every other player sucks. It plays ALL files even quicktime files, its just amazing =)

I upgraded to Win Media Player 11 on XP, but I have to remove the URGE player, cause I really don't need the extra space for nothing. Other than upgrading to have a cool skin, rather than the classical look, should be done, or simply click on the Help menu bar and click on Update.

Oh, and you can shrink WMP down into the taskbar as a mini player, it's pretty useful.

I really have no problem with WMP... I play music and watch videos on it. Sometimes files don't work [which is frustrating] so I'll just open in something else... I guess I'll have to try out WinAmp
