I understand what you mean canberrauser but sydney nye celebrations are known the world over and widely considered(not just by sydneysiders)to be the best nye fireworks in the world!The atmosphere which is made incredible by the amount of people counting down and cheering is undiscribable.I agree that the crowds are hard to deal with but its one night a year and if you party hard enough you'll either be on your way home so happy that you wont notice the time or party until the crowds die down

Just for the record, Sydney is known as the "new years eve capital" of the world, which if you've ever been there on new years you would see the thousands and thousands of people who tavel halfway around the world to see the Sydney fireworks, as no where else in the world comes close to ours

People line up and camp overnight to get the latest gadget or concert ticket, or book an outrageously expensive hotel to avoid the crowds and traffic etc. Australi has a reputation for the 'party hard", a big plus for tourism.
