people cant never change what they like i like some but it came off too me that this was some corprate made goth not all entirley true it a little euro to but good playlist
I know! I've updated my "Autumn Playlist" and I am carefully awaiting the opportune moment to begin... I don't want to be too hasty, Autumn is a serious thing!
Oh I LOVE analyzing my music! VNV Nation especially... like the song "Carbon" is a social commentary on how we're breaking our planet in the name of progress "by our blindness and stupidity, we kill everything" Granted though, some music out there is simply for listening to, but I like to get philosophical :)
OMG you just won! Not only have you heard of one of these, but you've seen them live! I still haven't seen the Crüxshadows because they've canceled some of their shows, or I was stuck in Duluth, or I just didn't know about it. You're my new hero :)
I should look for the pictures I took of them. They are really lame 2001 camera pics, and might still be on paper, in which case I may never find them.
Prisons, bloody battles, you really know how to pick a Goth review location to film! I may not have ever sought this music out, but if I heard it, I would have thought "oh. That's cool". For you, is it about mood, instrumentals or lyrics. "Neo Medieval" interesting. Question-have you ever been to a Goth hang out to club and listen to music? Would you have to travel to another city? Is it possible to be a "happy" Goth or is each individual different just like in any other group?
For me I really look for something deep and melodic sounding, with expressive minor chords especially anything polyphonic. Mood is also important. I don't know why, but for me, melancholic music makes me happy, contented, almost like ether. I tend to filter out songs with lyrics that I don't like. So if I download some music that sings about Satan I will most likely delete that song since I am a Christian Goth. I also disapprove of swearing in songs, so that helps me filter out some songs too
also, I have been to FOUR goth clubs in three countries. I've been to The Dominion in Dublin, Ireland, The Slimelight in London, England (that place is HUGE! and costs about $16 to get in) And there are two clubs here in Minneapolis, the fancy one is open on Saturday, and the free one is on Mondays. I've heard the phrase "no two goths are alike" but "Perky Goths" are rather happy... there are about a dozen main "goth types" but most of us cross over into several categories :)
cool! if you do choose a late night recording spot, the lighting conditions are key... my video camera's battery was almost dead so instead of using the light on my camera, I set it on top of my laptop keyboard and used the LCD screen to illuminate my face, and it was heavy for me to lift all that time! Thank you for watching this one :)
HOLY CRAP, I want your pen. LMAO!!! I have never heard any of these bands. Not really a genre I ever got into . . . going to have to check some of them out. Thank ya for responding :)
They are more in the Gothic Metal subgenre, and I forgot to mention in my video that I don't really like metal of any kind... Gothic metal seems to angry and not melancholic enough for me
Thanks! I've always wanted to film in that location, and I was surprised at how fitting it was! More? With Halloween approaching, I think that could be arranged :)
cool! One of my friends built a working dulcimer once, of all things, it was a physics project in high school! I think it's at his parents house somewhere. I also remember sometimes opening up a piano and striking the strings with a pencil... it sounded a bit dry, but much like a dulcimer :)

Is it possible to do a review of some goth music or is it mainly for listening to and not analyzing?

The only ones I know are Cruxshadows. I saw them play at Dragon*Con in 2001.

Please find them. My friend Lady Ozma has been trying to get me to go to a con. I didn't know they had music at them.

I really like those bands that blend in Celtic type sounds and the dulcimers.

Cheers for that John :)
My taste in music is pretty varied, really liked these bands you introduced me 2, some future listening for me there i think...
I appreciate the location for the video also & for filming in the wee small hours...nice touch...
I may have to follow suit at some point & do a late night video from somewhere... :)

Thanks for watching :) My biggest fear with this one is that it would have weirded you out or something (some of my creepy music is quite weird, lol)
brojoghost 3 years ago
I never get "weirded out" by musical choices. Music is a subcategory of our souls . . . and if your category is goth, then more power to ya! :)

Lacuna Coil, what would you consider their genre?

Oh,melancholy is the goal of Goth,I was thinking dark and angry,in a non lethal way.

I listen to the same sort of music. A few of those first bands remind me of Epica(dutch band) and Nightwish.
Dulcimers are amazing, I'm surprised there aren't more people using them, they do seem very difficult to play though.
