I don't think so. This is not a copy-cat of the F-22. that is misleading. Check minute 3:20 in the video and look how those vertical tails are moving. They are not like the raptors which is a pretty old design. Add the full 3D vectoring thrust to the PAK FA and man the F-22 and F35 are in trouble.
its not a bad path. It just should be done within reason. The only thing that Stealth provides is ability to get withint weapons range before the opponent can actually distinguish the radar return as an enemy fighter or bomber. its good for fighter if used without ISR platforms.

F-22 days are being counted...This is a great aircraft. With all aspect frontal rcs and sideways, this is looking to be a monster. The aft rcs will lower than F-22, will have to see what happend when Al-41 engines are used and how the nozzles are. Russians have tried the square nozzles n 1990 so will have to wait. X, L, S and VHF in the front and side is marvelous...I think with the L, and light jammers in the wings, this is very promising.I think Americas are already scooting to drawing boards.

Pleaseeeeeee, There is nothing wrong with the intakes, why do not see the trapezoidal Yf 23 intakes. Just for your information, the air takes are not hollow. In the sense, they are many deflectors in the air intake chambers which deflect air in the 'S' shape or zig zig way. Plus, there will be radar absorbing materials in the intakes to absorb any ram which might strike them. So, Just because it does not have a diamond intakes does not mean it is not stealthy. This is a deadly a/c.

This plane, according to Russian press, can do everything current Su's and Mig's can do, plus everything 5th gen fighter is supposed to be able to do. Don't forget - this one is only a prototype; new engines have to arrive, many other things also. Let's wait and see - but it looks like Sukhoi didn't make any big mistakes here, at least in the direction where their design bureau is going now. India also made a wise investment....
This new fighter prototype does posses some stealthy features. But It is not a high stealth fighter, buy no means. For many very obvious reasons. #1 conventional cockpit & radar covers. #2 exposed engine intake fans & oval shaped afterburners. #3 metallic exterior panels, etc... Plus no pilot 360 deg. canape visibility. It also lacks adequate amounts of horizontal & vertical control fin surface area as well. Incredibly, there is a complete absence of any internal weapon bays. Nice try tho. lol
Because of using the whole vertical tailplanes as rudders the PakFa is more efficient and has less drag. It makes the PakFa better in extreme manoeuvering and it gives the PakFa a better turn radius and better spin control!
If you compare them with the F-22 you will see that PakFa's vertical tailplanes are smaller because of using the whole vertical tailplane as a rudder. This is the first fighter ever to use this kind of vertical tailplane/rudder!
That's a very good looking, and I'm sure well-performing airplane, but it's not on a par with the F-22 in terms of capability (which makes sense, Russia/India can't afford it; hell, the USA has recently decided it can't afford it either). The PAK-FA has a radar cross section of roughly .5 m^2 (as per Russian defense ministry), which is very good, but significantly larger than the F-22 at .0002 m^2. F-22 is 3rd generation American Stealth. T-50 is 1st generation Russian Stealth.
One word, damn. It looks like a offspring of an F-22 and a YF-23 though, with the wing shape, sweep, slats, forward fuselage, engine intake shape and placement and the ruddervators. But still, damn.
Interesting plane. It's prototype ofcourse, so design of some parts (like back of engines or air intakes) will be changed for sure. Original project is from late 80th, but there is hell a lot of improvements since it. It's for sure that in real dogfight F-22 and PAK FA will be very close to each other. But PAK FA is cheaper - new materials, more lighter electronics. And today, there is no reason to build plane that isn't better F-22, it's almost 30 years passed since first flight of Raptor.

It is certainly not a replica, however the F-15 was intended to counter the MiG-25 and as such, that type of mission against that particular aircraft demands a certain type of airframe and inevitably there are going to be some similarities to get the desired performance. But yeah, it's not a replica. Same thing with T-50, hence its resemblance to the F-22 and F-35.
But F-15 doesn't resemble Mig-25 at all. While T-50 looks alot like F-22 and F-35 shapewise, in fact it's similar to the F-23 that never made it to production.
I would dispute that. The MiG-25 and F-15 look somewhat similar, twin vertical tails, placement of the flight control surfaces, delta wings and clean designs. Both were built for speed, although the Eagle was built with a large compromise between speed and agility. Yes I suppose the T-50's similarities are more evident, that does not mean that those between the F-15 and MiG-25 are completely nonexistent.

Instead, put yourself in an F-15 cockpit at 30,000 feet with a MiG-25 just inside visual range. From several miles away, that MiG-25 is going to look a lot like an F-15, or at least enough that you'll think twice about tossing off a missile at it. The P-47 and Fw 190 look "nothing" alike, yet in AtA combat they were often confused for one another.

THis is only a prototype. It will see changes that are in line with Russian doctrine and tactics. Once finished it will be stealth enough for its purposes and L-band AESAs planned and available for it will negate stealth advantage of F-22. Once they are within 100km of each other they'll see each other even with normal radars.
As for skin - it stands combat damage better then composites/polymers. But again it will be changed later on I believe.
@wyrdmagyk4, the Russians claim they will be using an active stealth system by having equipment generating an ion field around the aircraft. It's been known since the mid 1950s that ions to mess with radar waves. It wouldn't matter what the aircraft looked like and weapons could be stored on the outside. The U.S. couldn't get plasma stealth to work.That doesn't mean anything.The Canadians spent millions and couldn't make an early hovercraft work (they never thought about using a rubber skirt).

the Us researched it but decided against it because while Plasma would deflect radar it gave off an IR signature that could be tracked even from space...

@wyrdmagyk4,as far as I know,nobody makes medium and long ranged IR missiles at least nothing that can travel more 20 miles.Russian radar tracking missiles are said to be able to go over 130 miles.One can track the airflow around any stealth aircraft from space. The ability to trasfer that information is not possible for many nations including, probably,the U.S.The F-22 has no way to track IR images beyond its FLIR and it would be hard to see an object that small from 130 miles away with FLIR.
@wyrdmagyk4, the R-37 can go 215 miles. It's ment to destroy support aircraft such as an AWAC, but a little modification, such as a vector thruster, and it could be used to shoot down fighters as well.

Phoenix has been superceded and if there are some stocks of it left its only because they aren't past their PHYSICAL use-by date. Technologically AIM-54 has been leapfrogged. You need to check your info. Its a bit old today.
Once it becomes operational THEN you can mention it. AMRAAM does the same job as Phoenix. Also the R-172 with a booster pack achieves 400km (215 mile) range. Still wanna argue?
@0MoTheG, according to the Russians, the T-50 will be using an ion field generator. It's called plasma stealth and there was a patient made in the late 1950s describing how ions could prevent radar waves making it back to the radar. It wouldn't matter what the aircraft looked like or even if the weapons were on the outside. The U.S. dabbled with it by using paint containing uranium and putting on U-2s. It didn't work for the U.S.
As if. Why call those dogfighters raptor-killers when the raptor already killed itself? 186 to be built, f-22 is too scarce to be a major air-superiority element. If it engages 2 mig-29's, it will lose, numerical superiority is vital. Pit all f-22's ever built vs 1/10th of the 10,000 mig-21's ever built, and you'll see 186 wrecked f-22's - unless they run away. Its role has to be limited-engagement BnZ - useless for air superiority. US air power is still founded on f-16, f-15, f-18.

Actually this plane inspiration comes from the YF-23 prototipe from Boeing istead of the F22 (the winner in that US AF bid)...
Both YF-23 and F22 are crap, the later only won because of the 2D vector thrust factor...both were LOSERS born just to burn US tax payers money...
The F22 as it was said can´t compare with both SU-30´s or Typhoons on NATO exercises...

F-22 days are being counted...This is a great aircraft. With all aspect frontal rcs and sideways, this is looking to be a monster. The aft rcs will lower than F-22, will have to see what happend when Al-41 engines are used and how the nozzles are. Russians have tried the square nozzles n 1990 so will have to wait. X, L, S and VHF in the front and side is marvelous...I think with the L, and light jammers in the wings, this is very promising.I think Americas are already scooting to drawing boards.

Pleaseeeeeee, There is nothing wrong with the intakes, why do not see the trapezoidal Yf 23 intakes. Just for your information, the air takes are not hollow. In the sense, they are many deflectors in the air intake chambers which deflect air in the 'S' shape or zig zig way. Plus, there will be radar absorbing materials in the intakes to absorb any ram which might strike them. So, Just because it does not have a diamond intakes does not mean it is not stealthy. This is a deadly a/c.

This plane, according to Russian press, can do everything current Su's and Mig's can do, plus everything 5th gen fighter is supposed to be able to do. Don't forget - this one is only a prototype; new engines have to arrive, many other things also. Let's wait and see - but it looks like Sukhoi didn't make any big mistakes here, at least in the direction where their design bureau is going now. India also made a wise investment....

This new fighter prototype does posses some stealthy features. But It is not a high stealth fighter, buy no means. For many very obvious reasons. #1 conventional cockpit & radar covers. #2 exposed engine intake fans & oval shaped afterburners. #3 metallic exterior panels, etc... Plus no pilot 360 deg. canape visibility. It also lacks adequate amounts of horizontal & vertical control fin surface area as well. Incredibly, there is a complete absence of any internal weapon bays. Nice try tho. lol

Because of using the whole vertical tailplanes as rudders the PakFa is more efficient and has less drag. It makes the PakFa better in extreme manoeuvering and it gives the PakFa a better turn radius and better spin control!
If you compare them with the F-22 you will see that PakFa's vertical tailplanes are smaller because of using the whole vertical tailplane as a rudder. This is the first fighter ever to use this kind of vertical tailplane/rudder!

That's a very good looking, and I'm sure well-performing airplane, but it's not on a par with the F-22 in terms of capability (which makes sense, Russia/India can't afford it; hell, the USA has recently decided it can't afford it either). The PAK-FA has a radar cross section of roughly .5 m^2 (as per Russian defense ministry), which is very good, but significantly larger than the F-22 at .0002 m^2. F-22 is 3rd generation American Stealth. T-50 is 1st generation Russian Stealth.

Interesting plane. It's prototype ofcourse, so design of some parts (like back of engines or air intakes) will be changed for sure. Original project is from late 80th, but there is hell a lot of improvements since it. It's for sure that in real dogfight F-22 and PAK FA will be very close to each other. But PAK FA is cheaper - new materials, more lighter electronics. And today, there is no reason to build plane that isn't better F-22, it's almost 30 years passed since first flight of Raptor.

USA have bought in Russia at Yak Aircraft Corporation the documentation about fan placings on axes of the turbine and calculations gas distribution (draught) on nozzles at launch/landing, and also the kinematic scheme of a round rotary nozzle. They used it including at construction F-35.

How can PAK FA be tracked by a satellite when all satellites will be destroyed by a rockets there won't be satellites because there are weapons wich could not be prevented to destroy satellites and for sure they would destroy satellites so you will be on your own on the ground without satellites support wich means you won't have contact with the troops on the other side of the planet and you can't control UAVs because they would be out of range.

It is certainly not a replica, however the F-15 was intended to counter the MiG-25 and as such, that type of mission against that particular aircraft demands a certain type of airframe and inevitably there are going to be some similarities to get the desired performance. But yeah, it's not a replica. Same thing with T-50, hence its resemblance to the F-22 and F-35.

I would dispute that. The MiG-25 and F-15 look somewhat similar, twin vertical tails, placement of the flight control surfaces, delta wings and clean designs. Both were built for speed, although the Eagle was built with a large compromise between speed and agility. Yes I suppose the T-50's similarities are more evident, that does not mean that those between the F-15 and MiG-25 are completely nonexistent.

XzenXzaneXzix, I disagree. F-15 looks like a modern jet (4th gen), while Mig-25 looks like it was cut using scissors. THEY DO NOT LOOK ALIKE. Please, put pics of both next to one another and compare. Also FYI, from what I've read F-15 design emphasized agility, and speed was secondary: all the fast US machines of the past like f-104 proved to be useless, hence the change of thinking with the 4th gen. By F-15 standards, MIG-25 is outright primitive, even though it can go faster and is older.

p80mod, you are taking the perspective of looking at both aircraft in sharp, distinct detail, using multiple angles and high quality images. Instead, put yourself in an F-15 cockpit at 30,000 feet with a MiG-25 just inside visual range. From several miles away, that MiG-25 is going to look a lot like an F-15, or at least enough that you'll think twice about tossing off a missile at it. The P-47 and Fw 190 look "nothing" alike, yet in AtA combat they were often confused for one another.

Why are you even comparing F-15 to MiG-25? Totally different purposes for either plane. MiG is PURE INTERCEPTOR. Designed to catch SR-71 and proposed B-70, NOT to fight other fighters. And the F-15s ORIGINAL radar was canned and new one was made with power and range better then MiGs as MiGs had longer range. F-15 was created after Viet Nam where all lessons learned were used in F-15s design. Its was pure FIGHTER originally. Everything on MiG was there for speed and ceiling. it was REALLY good.

Also T-50 has many things that YF-23 never had. example - it has canards embedded in LERXs, it still has horizontal stabilizers. The only reason why the T-50 is similar to F-22 and YF-23 is similarity between requirements. Same story with B-1 and Tu-160.

THis is only a prototype. It will see changes that are in line with Russian doctrine and tactics. Once finished it will be stealth enough for its purposes and L-band AESAs planned and available for it will negate stealth advantage of F-22. Once they are within 100km of each other they'll see each other even with normal radars.
As for skin - it stands combat damage better then composites/polymers. But again it will be changed later on I believe.

It's been known since the mid 1950s that ions to mess with radar waves. It wouldn't matter what the aircraft looked like and weapons could be stored on the outside. The U.S. couldn't get plasma stealth to work.That doesn't mean anything.The Canadians spent millions and couldn't make an early hovercraft work (they never thought about using a rubber skirt).

the Us researched it but decided against it because while Plasma would deflect radar it gave off an IR signature that could be tracked even from space...
Charged Ion's can also be tracked by Satellites so I dont think that ion Camo will help much either...

@wyrdmagyk4,as far as I know,nobody makes medium and long ranged IR missiles at least nothing that can travel more 20 miles.Russian radar tracking missiles are said to be able to go over 130 miles.One can track the airflow around any stealth aircraft from space. The ability to trasfer that information is not possible for many nations including, probably,the U.S.The F-22 has no way to track IR images beyond its FLIR and it would be hard to see an object that small from 130 miles away with FLIR.

@wyrdmagyk4, the R-37 can go 215 miles. It's ment to destroy support aircraft such as an AWAC, but a little modification, such as a vector thruster, and it could be used to shoot down fighters as well.

Are you for real? Ever heard of AMRAAM? RVV-AE-PD? R-172? long-burn versions of (AA-10 Alamo)? British METEOR missile? Phoenix has been superceded and if there are some stocks of it left its only because they aren't past their PHYSICAL use-by date. Technologically AIM-54 has been leapfrogged. You need to check your info. Its a bit old today.

Once it becomes operational THEN you can mention it. AMRAAM does the same job as Phoenix. Also the R-172 with a booster pack achieves 400km (215 mile) range. Still wanna argue?

@0MoTheG, according to the Russians, the T-50 will be using an ion field generator. It's called plasma stealth and there was a patient made in the late 1950s describing how ions could prevent radar waves making it back to the radar. It wouldn't matter what the aircraft looked like or even if the weapons were on the outside. The U.S. dabbled with it by using paint containing uranium and putting on U-2s. It didn't work for the U.S.

As if. Why call those dogfighters raptor-killers when the raptor already killed itself? 186 to be built, f-22 is too scarce to be a major air-superiority element. If it engages 2 mig-29's, it will lose, numerical superiority is vital. Pit all f-22's ever built vs 1/10th of the 10,000 mig-21's ever built, and you'll see 186 wrecked f-22's - unless they run away. Its role has to be limited-engagement BnZ - useless for air superiority. US air power is still founded on f-16, f-15, f-18.
