  • i can't wait when (or if) i get a cello

  • 4:00 be inventive be inventive... i dont have cello either but i'll be inventive

  • And so on and so on.

    Hans rocks.

  • Excellent teacher. Love the deep tone of the G string.

  • these make me feel like a kid agian

  • He is lovely, as well as the cello :)

  • This teacher is very good

  • @MsFacey1 sure they're tight, and there lies the other question: how tight can you tighten them? I mean, the tighter the hair, the easier to play, but surely at some point tightening can be bad?

  • Can anyone help??

I'm having hard time producing a sound with the bow. I need to apply great force to it to get a sound out; so much, that when trying to play the C-string, it get all bent by the force. I've Rosined the bow so much that the strings get all white now when trying to play (couldn't make any sound untill I did this).

  • @Wyrmeli

Are the hairs tight? If not you will have a hard time.

  • @Wyrmeli the bow should have some bend in it. don't tighten it so much the bow is straight.

  • Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • Don't restrict your inventive fantasy. ;)

  • "and so on and so on, be inventive." what a legend!

  • What is his name???

  • I Think he´s excelent. It is very funny to use words like Inventive, BUT the fact is; "He´s a great master" Congratualtions.

    Well-structured Lesson!

  • He has got a german accent ;) But I love his lessons! Very clearly and well-structured. And a good speech, if I am able to evaluate it (I'm German, too :D ) Well, I understood everything!

  • I'm trying not to restrict my inventive fantasy.

  • tHANK YOU MASTER

  • thank you from france!

  • THE BEST TUTOR ON YOUTUBE FOR CELLO THANKS

  • Let's all be inventive!

  • okay my cello is not making any music sounds...am i doing something wrong...do i need a new bow?

  • @onwingsflight Did you Rosin'd your bow?

  • I love how he tells you what to practice. That's the biggest problem I find in this stuff, people won't tell me what I'm supposed to be practicing. This is awesome!

  • 고맙습니다.

  • A bit dry for my little people, but sound advice and clear.

  • so the wrist is always loose? never even slightly tightened on the wrist stroke?

  • This guy sounds like a German James Earl Jones

  • The G-String is my favorite string on the cello. I remember in my high school orchestra class, my instructors string broke once and before he could catch himself he said, "Opps, my G-String just broke."

    LOLOLOLOL

  • do you hold down anything to play those scales like C ,G, D, and A?? someone tell meh please?

  • @ilovekyokyoxD the c , g ,d ,a major scales? If not, then it'sjust open strings ;p

  • @ilovekyokyoxD If you mean the notes he is playing then no as C,G,D,A are the 4 open strings (nothing pressed down). Hope this helps :)

  • @Nikki1234300 thank you :)

  • Ok i play guitar, but i really really want to learn how to play the cello? Any recommendations on which one i should get or would i need lessons?

  • Este material é muito bom para estudo, precisamos disponibiliza-lo legendado em outros idiomas, inclusive o português, embora o a pronuncia do Zentgraf esteja muito clara e audível.

  • Inventiff. How cute <3

  • i like it! it realy helps to improve!!!

  • this is so depressing, im watching these videos because i really want to learn but i don't even have a cello =(

  • @ilovesabian1n1 I too share your suffering! :(

  • and so on and so on be inventive!

  • i am a violinist and i REALLY want to switch to cello i can figure songs out on it like all the right moves by one republic i just need to learn the note names and fingurings and i cant find a video that does tht :( maybe you can help?

  • This is really good stuff, especially for a beginner like me! Thanks a ton.

  • Thank you, thank you. We play violin and have borrowed a cello to see if we like it. We do! Thanks you for being so generous with your time and talents!

  • wow. You're voice makes me play the cello now XD I think you're a very good teacher & a cellist =)

  • jeez! this dude's voice is hipnotic!

  • is he playing a cheap cello?

  • @Freethinker12341

    His cello isn't considered super-cheap (like a school cello that's a few 100 dollars)

but it's not a super duper good cello that yoyoma / julian webber would play

    I'd say maybe it's around $1000-2000

  • @Freethinker12341

I don't think its cheap bec. cello is a big instrument. I think you know that the bigger the instrument the bigger it costs =)

  • :D yay fun

  • Thank you! Very helpful lesson.

  • Great teacher! I agree with Tinky: Demonstration very clear and calm. My current instructor is wonderful, but I would love to have a teacher of cello like this too. I'll do it again the first practical exercises as he does in the video. P.S.: Sorry for the mistakes that may have occurred, my native language is Portuguese. Bye to all (:

  • @vdoesa That entire paragraph is grammatically perfect, kudos!

  • I would love it if he was my instructor. Very calm, clear explanation, and really practical important basic exercises.

  • 4:09 starts my favorite line ever...

"you want to play faster bows, later...or, maybe now." This guy is awesome.

  • @kaosumaru Indeed, awesome line

  • Thank you! I'm in a boarding school and can't get cello lessons but this is very helpful:) Wonderful teaching. I can't wait to practice

  • this is great. Thank you

  • great lesson! thanks /I've got to get my old cello out and get started

  • My right hand gets very fatigued when I bow for a few min. Amy tips? Is my bow to loose or am I applying too much pressure perhaps?

Also, do you keep the bow flat to the strings or angle it?

  • Very helpful video! I love the fact that Herr Zentgraf is always calm, reassuring and dutiful in his dedication to helping us poor slobs at the bottom. :)

  • "be inventive"

    :D

  • Thank you thank you thank you...this lesson series is fabulous. Especially for those (like me) who play for fun, or at church. Learning fine pointers from a kindly calm person is a such a pleasure! No emotional intimidation, no guilt you are good enough..this is a treasure. Bless you for thinking of all us out in the world (like us in California) who needed your helping hand - (oops - bowing arm - haha), and some fine tuning.

  • my old mentor is too busy helping out the trumpeters and saxaphonists and is unable to assist me in my studies this will help out a lot thanks ^v^

  • lol...."Faster bows...Later...or...Maybe now..." Truly wonderful.

  • I was thinking the same thing, hahaha.

    "Faster bows later...or...maybe now :D..."

*looks hopeful and gives producer a wink*

*producer shakes his head and says "no"*

  • Does anyone know what a good beginner cello brand is? And how much do they usually run for? I want to start playing soon but I don't want to get screwed over with pricing. Sadly there are no cello teachers in my area so I have to go without them!

  • Eastman strings have great step-up cellos ($1,000+), if there's no strings store locally try ebay ($300-500 'playable'), it's better than nothing. Avoid laminated wood and stick to the "solid hand carved" ebay cellos. spruce top, maple back and sides, the standard. d'darrio strings are good to start but spirocore (c), jagar (g,d), and larsen (a)are the best string combo to me, paesold bows are good too, good luck!

  • thank you that helped a lot...we'll see what i can find :)

  • magnificent

  • i remember learning all this back in 5th grade =) such memories, good luck with everyone learning to play. It really is a beautiful instrument

  • really good. Thank you!

  • Very helpful and useful. Thanks, Hans.

  • The cello is such a beautiful instrument.

  • this is very helpful. Thank you.

  • thank you
