  • @Bigbriansc he's doing high bar back squats, not low bar back squats. it's a different technique. powerlifters do low bar, olympic lifters do high bar.

  • Your back shouldn't be totally flat when you start, you wouldn't have dropped it. Try using your legs more in this exercise

  • How much of that last message was sarcasm? Only just discovered your videos, but you seem to do low bar squats your self.

    I've been weightlifing about 6 months, squatting 130kg, deadlifting 150, powercleaning 80kg and snatching 55kg. I'm sure I could do more if I had the flexiblity/technique.

  • the start position is unconventional. most people go lower for the dynamic start / stretch reflex start, but not higher than conventional. i don't know much about that style and how the back angle plays into the leverages and power of the pull. it seems like the first pull doesn't really matter for you, as the second pull / double knee bend / and triple extension seems OK - and that's where you get the power.

  • the big thing i've noticed with the higher start position is that i'm more conscious of my shoulders staying over the bar. i put them over the bar to begin with, and once i start pulling i just keep that position in mind

    at the same time it pushes the hips back, which keeps me cocked for the second pull

    like i said, i used to start lower until my current coach had me do otherwise, but i think this one works out a lot better for me
