For the record, though I like Natalie Marchant, I absolutely CAN'T STAND her verion of Patti Smith's "Because the night", but that doesn't mean it sucks rocks.

I happen to LIKE it when music becomes more diverse. That's when we all gain.

@kestreljaye I agree, Natalie Merchant's version of Because the Night falls woefully short, because, I think, she does not sound as if she comes from a place of great depth, or to be more specific, a certain quality of depth required to perform the song with a genuine ring of truth. Quite good. There were some flaws all right. But it is nice to see a phenomenal icon like Patti Smith covering a classic like 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'. At least this should silence those critics who always foolishly think of Tears for Fears as an average synth-pop band with cheesy songs. By the way this song was covered by many artists including Don Henley (Eagles), Gloria Gaynor and Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet).

Fucking signed! I was happily surprised to see this, that she had covered a Tears for Fears song because there are a lot of prejudice towards bands from the 80ies like them. I mean, como on! This a great song, there's no denying it.
