My parents never got divorced although they should have. Both are at fault for this but my father is a little more responsible. He used to threaten that he would just become unemployed so that he wouldn't have to pay child support (for three children). This would have been a great financial problem for my mother... when I left home as the first child (I'm the oldest) they eventually separated and e year after this my father died. He did care less about us than my mother after mariage failure.
Yay, Twisty! It almost feels like I've met you now!
In response to your question, my father fought mostly for reductions in child support. I'm not sure how much of him having joint custody was because he fought for it vs. my mom thinking it was best for us. My dad would drop out of our lives for years at a time. He still does, though I've decided that as an adult I really don't care as I really don't like him as a person anyways. When we were there, he was pretty much drunk the entire time.
I'm being completely dude-like and patriarchal (and maybe it's the hat), but Spinster Aunt is like, hot. Sorry. It had to be said. Oh, and the voice...butter.

I dunno, my broken family resulted in my being raised solely by my father.
BUT, I think that might be the case.
