@cwaj the best way to sow sweet peas are, use soil based compost ie JI#1 without
fertilizer In a seed tray put !inch of compost quaurter inch Vermiculite water and spread
seeds on topand press down with piece of wood cover with glass and keep light out.
After 4 or 5 days you will find shoots appearing cover with same compost and leave them till they have 3 seaves on and then prick them out into 5inch pots 6 to apot or
Great video. I'm a little bit surprised to hear that sweet pea seeds are poisonous but then erythrina crist-galli and laburnum seeds are poisonous as well.
The genus name for the edible pea is Pisum. I can see the entry for Lathyrus on p.433 of the Sunset Western Garden book says that the seeds contain toxic amino acids
I see. so the pods She is holding here are Pisum , and the flowers shown are Lathyrus Odoratus . I'd likely go the edible strain over poison . Thank you Allan
I've been trying to grow sweet peas for some time now to no avail. I will give your method a try! Thank-you!!

a bit confused . how do sweet peas differ from 'sweet peas' ? is the seed not the pea itself ? what is the genus name from the edible 'sweet pea ?
