I wasn't alive when Kate was at her height in the 80's and late 70's, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if she was not taken very seriously and patronised quite often? if that was the case, then would you say that that was largely because she's a woman? also was she recognised as the tremendous talent that people now think of her as?

@oddn It depends. Early in her career, in the UK, some people interpreted the theatrical elements of her work as evidence that she was nuts. But eventually even those people came around.

There are some painful interviews, but in general, you are cringing for the interviewer, not Kate. She has always had the courage of her convictions, willing to go as far as her art takes her.

As much as I wish she had toured again and been more productive, her scarcity helped her be taken more seriously.

That is him. But I would not have recognized him if the fact that he is Adam Curry wasn't pointed out to me. I didn't start watching MTV until the late 80's, and by then Adam Curry had long hair and a much different look than from what he has in this interview. Thanks for pointing that out to those of us who hopped aboard much later.

My first contact to her was just by music. Now I try to find out something about the person behind the work and distinguish that eveyone at this interview-roots are asking the same things. She looks as inside herself she became crazy about this questions about soaps&hairstyle. That was back in the 80's and this days? Is it different?

Bonus points for mentioning wanting to work with Peter Gabriel again. In fact she had probably already recorded her vocals for 'Don't Give Up' by this point, so maybe, she's just being a bit mischievous...
