@demoflare LOL! Linux is like 1 percent of the market. They're not gonna waste their time. We do need an open source alternative though. Hopefully HTML 5 will put that to death.
html5 will succeed as its currently planned to use ogg theora, which is open source and not propietary, meaning it can run on anything its been ported too ;p
16mb in 1993 I dont think so, with silicone shortage, RAM increased in price so 16mb ram was like over £700 thats in the region of $1500 and only 80mb hdd lol
ok i have this linux ok anyways i was trying to fix the alsa audio thingy and i entered what the ubuntu website said to do and now when i log in it takes me to terminal only a huge fullscreen terminal theres no gui
I still run IRC client and an ftp server on my ThinkPad 701CS.. that's 50MHz 486DX4 with a whole bunch of 12MB RAM lappy. Running DeLi Linux with self-compiled 2.6-serier. Does the CLI very slightly:)
a few years ago a couple went out to dinner. later that night the babysitter called and asked if she could put a sheet over the clown statue in the kids bedroom. the father said "get the kids out of the house and I'll call the police. we don't own a clown statue." it turned out that the clown was a murderer escaped from jail. if you don't repost this message on 10 videos the clown will be in your bedroom tonight at 3am with a chainsaw
i dont want to switch from windows to linux because i have good programs i downloaded like adobe after effects cs4 and power director. do u think its worth my time dual booting
It is always a good idea to install a dual boot system. This way you can get the good stuff from both environments.
Also, unlike many "experts" on youtube, you can't evaluate a OS using live CDs or virtual machines. You have to actually install it in order to unleash all its features.
Most people that say they don't like Linux just tried a live CD and almost all of their problems come from not having the system installed in their harddrives.
not to mention it should fit a netbook pretty well. i have an eeepc 2g surf which is the lowest end eeepc they make. the specs are embarrassing compared to the other eeepcs and other netbooks, but it was cheap.(i'm totally replacing it as soon as i can) i've been using xubuntu on it and it works fine but if i can squeeze more power out of it and still get good usability that should be cool.
Amen on the point about aesthetics, no offense to all the fans but I really have never seen a Linux GUI that I've liked the look (or function) of. In the end having a clean look and feel can make the UI easier to use as well as nicer to look at.
I'm DLing this one now and will hopefully try it tomorrow.
umm my 386 with 2 megs of RAM still powers on, my Amiga 500 and C64 also still work fine today. Do not assume that machines with less than 128 RAM will not power on ;)
really? I found Mint to be more difficult than Ubuntu. However the desktop is better looking and it seems to be slightly more stable. I do still have that weird wifi issue.
I second phenylalanin's comment. You don't use the video track very well. When you review distributions, you should at least show some screenshots, or if you're talking about a nice menu, show us how the menu works. I always watch the Youtube version of LAS, but it really never really has any additional content over the audio only versions.
Your audio tracks are good, but your video tracks are almost always pointless. You could get some use out of the video track without hurting audio track.
1.hi Thanks for talking about Felicia flux box C.E. that's what I have installed on my I,B.M Net vista with krusader for my filling system. 2. O.k Here's my Idea for an invention the external fire wire card a small devise the size of a modem that has both U,S,B and Fire wire ports and a place to plug in the camera it comes with cables to hook things up to your old computers U.S.B Ports once every thing is set people can use their cameras to make videos on kino Which needs fire wire.
For my not very old computer (AthlonXP2500, ATIX1600) I am using slimmed down version of Xubuntu and work really fast and is great for my parents as most basic internet use and document reading and writing (now we are on about 10 day of them really using the computer).
I used to run Mint for a while. It's a great distro for complete beginners, i.e. you don't have add medibuntu repos, restricted extras, etc. Overall, I'd still recommend standard-issue Ubuntu. The Mint tuning, albeit nice, tends to be a little buggy at times.

Linux Mint Fluxbox is EXTREMELY buggy. A few apps won't work very well, and flash performance is terrible.

@j800r
flash is always terrible on linux, especially on x86_64 architechtures, blame adobe for being propietary bitches!
gnash is a good alternative, but sometimes videos can be buggy.

I think it would be easier for a newbie to transition to some of the other CE's, or the main edition of mint.

the menus in fluxbox are pretty simple is a very basic .rc text file in which you just need an editor to change the structure.
you can get it also from fluxbox documentation.

sharperguy 2 years ago
Yeah except this comes with some useful software and some Drivers in its kernal
im not going to diss Win Xp I still use it but install it clean from the cd as i often do for my clients and its useless
it only comes with IE (6 if i might add) and WMP
it is a useless OS if u run it as is straight from the cd
this thing straight from the cd is ready to go on any computer
Im not a linux zealot im just stating the facts. I still fix Windows computers all the time and still use it
