The writers did a similar joke in Father Ted in the sheep episode where one of the men in the the crowd says "Fecking hell!" in amongst people gasping in shock.
hockata is nothing, its takingh the mick out of the whole sketch itself its like they all say that for her aswell, its hard to explain but the word hockata is not significant its that they all do that in unison, i dunno if that helps
Spike Milligan was great, but I don't understand how you can like him but not the Monty Python crew when they were essentially making the same kind of comedy.
Also, have you not seen The Life of Brian? You don't get much more irreverent than that, especially for its time. Monty Python takes the piss out of all sorts, and much of it is pretty timeless.
The timing in this sketch is emaculate. The fact that they haven't just used the same shot of the office workers goes to show how amazingly talented this group of comedians are.
Funny how everyone thinks that this is really "british humour" when really the writer and directors are Irish. The creators of Father Ted, wouldn't ya know.
Although I guess the actors do lend a certain British element to it.
No...The British live in Britian, that is England, Wales and Scotland. That is why the full title of this country in 'The United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northen Ireland'
Anyway, I agree...even though I am British and from England, Irish Hunour is really funny as you can see in the likes of Father Ted and the Big Train. The even wrote parts of 'I'm Alan Partridge' and I believe also 'Black Books' and the 'IT Crowd'
Haha! I love Simon Pegg! His new film How to Lose Friends and Alienate People looks good. Esp love the interview on youtube with Simon and Gillian Anderson, it's so funny! ("what the f*ck are you talking about?!") rofl
Mark Heap looks a lot like Mark McKinney from Kids In The Hall - which isn't a bad thing by any stretch! I'm glad I have an all-region player, because this show will probably never be shown in the States.
I think that The Simpsons and Twin Peaks are the only truly brilliant things to ever come out of American television. Problem is, one will probably never be seen again and the other will probably never be funny again.

honestly, i think most british comedy is really stupid (monty python) but this video was pretty funny.
kurt2552 3 years ago
british comedy is supposed to be a little silly yet satirical
850kell531 3 years ago 10
There is far more depth to Monty Python than its silliness.
eradeziel 3 years ago 3
but Python ain't that funny & has dated quite badly. Spike Milligan has always been better, more irreverent.

Important distinction. The writers are from the Republic so, no they're not British.
And I'd say it's got a pretty Irish vibe to it, when you compare it to Father Ted and the like.

People from Northern Ireland aren't British either. Britain is the British mainland (England, Scotland, Wales) and the British Isles.
