I actually find that Elton John yells a lot. k.d. understands melody as well as tune and meaning of what she's singing. Her voice is so powerful. I liked it better when she sang with Roy Orbison. If you haven't heard her sing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, it'll blow you away!!
Wow! kd is the only singer I've ever heard able to match Elton on power and depth while doing a duet with him. Even George Michael's voice was dwarfed by Elton. But not our kd!

I disagree but with respect: I am a writer,an artist and I play piano. First you can teach a person to play an instrument. Its true singing is a gift,one must have a good ear and timing. But,no-one can teach a person to write. Nor can they be taught to be an artist(if they do not have the initial talent for it) writing comes from the heart and the soul. It takes a "special" talent to put words down on paper. . I can't sing a note of music,but was taught to play piano at the age of five.
yes anyone can be taught to write but that doesnt always mean it will be it will be good or as good. something truly beautiful is something that comes from the heart.

I actually find that Elton John yells a lot. k.d. understands melody as well as tune and meaning of what she's singing. Her voice is so powerful. I liked it better when she sang with Roy Orbison. If you haven't heard her sing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, it'll blow you away!!

Wow! kd is the only singer I've ever heard able to match Elton on power and depth while doing a duet with him. Even George Michael's voice was dwarfed by Elton. But not our kd!

LOL! No doubt, there's enough of her to go around. She's a big personality.
I think Elton has lost a lot of his control and range, after singing so forcefully for so long. He's still way up there in power and tone, but I think kd has taken more care of her voice, and sings more skillfully, so the life of her career should be looooong. I hope!

I have taught guitar and vocals for nearly 40 years,and a great number of people have become pro singers/guitarists,But to teach someone to"write/compose a song like this is impossible.I agree by the way that KD is exceptional and inspirational.I have been a fan from the start.Listen to her comments on Roys song writing!!.

k d is a song writer too. She wrote/co-wrote all of the songs on "Ingenue" , "Invincable Summer" and "Watershed".

I disagree but with respect: I am a writer,an artist and I play piano. First you can teach a person to play an instrument. Its true singing is a gift,one must have a good ear and timing. But,no-one can teach a person to write. Nor can they be taught to be an artist(if they do not have the initial talent for it) writing comes from the heart and the soul. It takes a "special" talent to put words down on paper. . I can't sing a note of music,but was taught to play piano at the age of five.

yes anyone can be taught to write but that doesnt always mean it will be it will be good or as good. something truly beautiful is something that comes from the heart.

A lot of singers (including myself) find it much easier to sing without shoes on. Because singing properly is a whole body experience whatever restricts you, you deal with. Hence, no shoes.
