All I really want to see is a Korea team with just Kim, Jhun, and May Lee. I've never been a fan of Chang or Choi, and getting rid of both, not just one, would make the entire team far less silly.
Well, even though I'm not fond of this game, they had all the Ikari Warriors in and they had Foxy as a playable character, but the asthetics were a step backwards specially after KOF 2K and they continued with the striker system, which was, in my opinion, even more broken than in KOF 2K. That and the lack of proper balance killed the game for me.
Still, for some friendly matches, it fits the bill. My least favourite KOF, but I've seen WAY worse.
This game is played in tournaments in Asia. The gameplay is excellent too. Unlike you worthless failures they don't complain about balance - they just play it, enjoy the game and challenge each other.

Also, I can tolerate some unbalance, but the balance in KOF 2K1 is absolutely off, making the game less enjoyable for me. But as I said, there are way worse games than KOF2K1.
I really disliked this one. The graphic and music quality really went down hill from the previous games, though that was most likely the fault of Eolith taking over. Plus the fact that you can choose to not designate a striker and have four people to a team was kind of stupid.
It really is dull in the aesthetics department. The only good songs were Kyo's team, NESTS team, Kim's team and MAYBE Igniz's team. The arrange soundtrack is much more bearable but still crap. The menu and stages are just bland. Yeah it's easy to see why people hate it.
People should look beyond the small things and FOCUS on the game itself.
Sure the music is a bit different, the characters not drawn so properly. But it initiated the free Super Desperation Moves cancel system and disabled the broken continuity of certain strikers.
Many characters like Kim and Ralf, have a great deal of their missing moves restored too. The gameplay is unparalleled in the Nest series (it does have contenders from Orochi series) and superior to '99 and '00, and even '02.
01 is one of my favorites. Most of the complaints I hear are about the music/presentation/new characters/etc. By actually playing it I don't care about that stuff. What's a pretty menu and nice soundtrack without a good game anyway?

this KOF is so ugly on Emulator versions! I have it on PS2, arts and backgrounds are much better! Yeah and K9999> Nameless the gay. Tetsuoooooooo

You should look at the gameplay. It is more fun than the previous two, even better than 2002.
'98 is also better than 2002.
