I also remember that same day, the march after the war, I tried to shake a cops hand and talk to him b4 the march and he just completely froze me out; but at the march before the war the cops were like on our side, and afterwards they were generally pretty relaxed, but that day I think they were afraid of us.

i went to a lot of those protests and I never witnessed a protester getting out of hand. My friend was shoved to the ground while trying to leave at the march after war was declared (she was maybe 15 at the time), but other than that I never witnessed cops getting out of line either, though there were stories. Most of the protests were pretty tame after a while, though I do recall some clashes during an Immigrant Rights march couple years back I think.
