Since the story & characters were developed in Japan & it's their baby it's actually the truth. The names were changed for the American & UK versions that we're accustomed to seeing.

If I remember right M Bison was suppose to stand for Michael Bison as a reference to Mike Tyson who was big at the time. Who we call Balrog is a Boxer. Probably cultural things led to the name changes.

I first watched the english version with the heavy metal soundtrack and hard rock tunes... it gives a different sense to the scene.
