He gave a red card because he saw what is called Denying an Obvious Goal-Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO). Basically means that you cannot commit a foul on a player who has a chance to make an easy goal.

However, it looks like the referee thought that the goalkeeper committed the foul, when in fact the guy just slipped. Mistakes happen.  Especially when the ref is at least 20 yards from the play.

I think the ref thought the keeper push/pulled him down when he sticks his arm out. From the angle where the ref was to him thats probably what it looked like, the keeper sticking out his arm and making contact with him and not playing the ball.

i say we should play referees but we should also have video refs for difficult decisions. No more assistant refs. So many offsides are incorrect which could potentially lead to goals. A video ref quickly looks at replays, tells ref what to do, easy as that. What do u think ref?

No, I hate the idea of video referees.The assistant referees are needed. yes offside is often a thing that is called incorrectly I will agree with you on that. However assistant referees also have many other duties, alerting the referee to a foul that may have not been seen, and that may also be out of view of a camera could it not? I am glad FIFA has so strongly opposed the idea of video replay. I believe football is best left to four officials as the way it is now. A CR, two AR'S and a fourth.

One day at a match I had a woman yelling at me the whole match didn't like a thing I called, "unless it favored her team go figure" but finally I had enough went up to her and handed her my whistle. Said here you go if you think you can do better go I would be more then happy to take a break. Everyone laughed at that, she got embarrassed, apologized and never said another word. That match went great after that.
