@evotherapist the airbox has a few small breather holes in it. apparently they get sealed up by some people, but the last owner obviously didn't. i didn't know to check for it until after this day.
am i the only one noticing that you have a SNORKEL fitted, you should have sealed every bit in the airbox, theres about 6 holes in the airbox (water drains) to seal!!!! have you checked or changed your axle oil since????
LOL. actually, after a coupe of hours drying the basics out (filter, electronics and trying to pull glow plugs out...) i cranked it over in short bursts to (hopefully) get the water out, it started and ran fine. trans was in limp mode due to its ecu being under water(under passenger seat). spent the next week pulling the car apart and drying or replacing all the electronics and interior bits.
more in answer to the above post, i couldnt get the glow-plugs out, and i thought "f%^k it" by that point. all the stories i'd heard said that diesels dont survive actual drownings. i was lucky i think.
we spent a couple of minutes seeing where the deep spots/wheel ruts were, but didnt check the entry too well. the car just got hung up on its front diff and it only took a few sonds for the airbox to fill with water once it was stationery. we had already gone through the creek at the other end a few times, which was deeper and faster flowing, and then got stuck in the friggin water hole!
Huh. Isn't that some bullshit. I bet if you had more momentum or speed while entering you woulda been fine huh? So the motor actually filled up w/ mwater but you took the plugs out or what?
Don't think I'll try that in mine

ooh, i feel sorry for you then, lucky you had no serious damage then!
My breather isn't sealed but luckily haven't left it standing in water, wondering if it's possible to seal that?

there was still a little breather tube under the airbox. as the car was sitting still, water started coming in through it...

Oh thats some crazy shit man. I'm glad it started back up.
Thats the one thing that really pisses me off with these beasts. Their dumbass ecu setups.

How the hell did you drown in that? I've been in deeper in my D1.
It IS pretty deep, and you WERE going too slow.. but I still dont see how the hell it locked?
