ANyways to even become a super saiyan you have to raise your power level to a certain degree before you can, on a lesser extent with Goten and Trunks, and even Gohan, but they even had to raise it to a certain power level.

@Johonywuzhere He still would have lost. Base Goku stood up to final form Frieza in warm ups, where as base Bardock met a messy end at first form Frieza. Super saiyan is a power magnifier, it doesn't give you a set power level.

Actually, Bardock was easily able to swat aside Frieza's elites, making him around Vegeta's level on Namek. That power plus what he would get from the zenkai would put him very close to SSJ level.
