@andocrates, No it just reflects the most marketable person now a days. Ushers just another sell out artist with no substens, trying to tell everyone whats cool and whats not! There ten a penny.
@MrPaul263 Usher is as talented as any artist in American musical history, black or white.
Black music has always reflected black culture - in fact all popular music MUST reflect culture to survive. Bach gave way to Mozart, then Beethoven, Samuel Barber etc. If gangsta rap is what 'stuck' then it must be because it reflects blacks urban lifestyle's.
since i was a little kid, my dad listened and sang these songs in a band and glad he did, i grew up knowing the difference between real music and crap made by computers.....and this song just makes me wanna cry remembering the times my dad takes me with him to the band practice and listen to this song. Now i just wish i could start a band just to play these awesome songs :(
ha, when he was first getting started my grandfathers best friend had a chance to play drums for him over in Shefield alabama about 30 min. from my house but refused because he didn't want to play for a nigger, man he must regret that now!
LOL why do people keep complaining about todays music? is it because its cool or somehting. sure, alot of mainstreim music blows. but if you look for good music, you'll find it. jaheim, anthony hamilton, duffy, adele, mgmt, MIA, coldplay, the killers, the roots and many more mainstriem artists are making music right. buck up, open your eyes and stop being so pesimistic. if you're not part of the soulution, you're part of the problem.
There's a song by R. Kelly out right now called, "When A Women Loves" that is truly reminiscent of a Percy Sledge song. I just watched the video on VeVo and it's amazing.
SATAN. Satan is what happened to music. Just like every and anything else that has turned to shit throughout the years. When Satan gets involved in anything, it starts slowly descending into hell. Look at the values and morals of people today, especially young people. The girls are too easy; the guys are violent and totally disrepectful of everything. SATAN has em all.
@Ladyday55 by 'satan' you mean money and capitalist ideals, no? that seems to be the main reason "artists" make "music" anymore. while songs of old were meant to inspire and warm the heart, now are to line pockets and rent indoor pools and bowling alleys in bathrooms and diamonds on tire rims and the list goes on. it sounds terroristic if we're to replace 'satan' with 'america', but it's ultimately what happened.
You are not alone in your observation. Millions probably agree. My guess is that it follows "Diffusion of Innovation" theory; where basically it follows an S-shaped curve -- a diffusion curve shaped somewhat like an elongated S on its side. Music has plateaued, if not fallen off the chart, in general (there are exceptions). If diffusion theory is correct, it will improve, but I'm not sure if we'll live long enough since it isn't happening very fast.
I bought tickets to see Percy Sledge In Jamaica a few years ago but a storm came and the show was called off......too bad...I would have stood in the rains to hear him.......

the only reason this version suck
is because the original song is bad

@tnb35 See isn't that a better way to react than to call someone names? Of course you're wrong, but you're wrong in a much more friendly way. :-)
