  • @WeedHeadPig OMG fk off ;)

  • @Kudulu96 don't dare to say that it's failed cover couze its not!

  • @WeedHeadPig it is XD nooby i think u dont even know the original

  • It's the shit

  • bad ass

  • It's ok, but I'm sure it would've been better if he recorded it in 1984 when it was originally intended to be recorded by him.

  • The theme was not originally intended for Simple Minds, then, a group little known outside the UK. Nonetheless, he always thought of a band or a British solo to interpret it.

Keith Forsey asked Cy Curnin of The Fixx, Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol to record the song, but all three refused, without displaying the potential of the subject; Idol later regret and would perform a version of the piece in 2001 that appeared on her greatest hits collection

  • i love that billy shows he has a soft side in this one.

  • billys version is the best better the simple minds :D

  • @an15na1 I like Billy Idol, but I disagree with you on that one. Simple minds done a slightly better job.

  • im never gonna be able to simple minds version again. which may not be such a bad thing.

  • This sounds like shit-no emotion or haunting backing music ffs..

  • This song was originally written for billy idol, although he rejected it, and simple minds played it. billy idol then made his cover, which became quite popular.

  • i thought this was the best version of the song. I keep trying to listen to Simple Minds' version but just cant. i mean, i like it and all, but when i listen to simple minds i keep thinking of the billy idol version in my head

  • @GilstrapStudiosAlt same here. i get the same feeling whern i watch the breakfast club. how much cooler would that movie have been with this version on the sound track?

  • who cares who did it friust billys is best end of story.

  • Billy was asked to do this first and lost out to Simple Minds...too bad

  • Family Guy brought me to this song. But I already knew the awesomeness of Billy Idol before. Family Guy just brought me to the song :)

  • The simple minds one never made me cry. I think about my Friend who was killed on Friday by a hit and run driver who's been bailed out and due to go back in october. He was an innocent kid and he was a mate. His family are traumatised. I think about him and his family when I listen to this song and I can't help but cry my eyes out.

  • its funny i can understand billys veriotn better then the one simple minds did.

  • i love IDOL but this version is way overproduced and he over sings it with this added HEY HEY and all the rest.. Original is wayyyy better..

  • @LordVile How can the original be better then itself? Don't you know that Simple Minds covered this song?

  • @HalanDinh Wrong!Simple minds performed the original!!Billy idol covered them!

  • @HalanDinh u don't know what ur talking about.."Recording history

Forsey asked Cy Curnin from The Fixx, Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol to record the song, but all three declined; Idol would later perform a cover of it on his 2001 greatest hits compilation. Schiff then suggested Forsey ask the Scottish New Wave band Simple Minds,

  • David cook is way better

  • That's just perfect

  • Gosh, i like this song just as much as the original. Billy adds a special slickness to it, with his voice and juices it up....or maybe i'm just hungry ^_^

But GREAT song, and may billy idol live on !

  • LMAO... so many people think he did the ORIGINAL... simple minds does slightly sound like him, but this makes me a LIAR now.

  • @Arkhangel67 The song was written for Billy idol.

  • Discovered that I had this song on my iPod and nearly died. I love it sooo much!

  • oohhhhh :( I love Billy but don,t like his cover of this song

  • holy crap its spike!

  • I like Billy Idol but this is bad

  • @andyj66 this is better than simple minds!!!!!!

  • As much as I adore Billy Idol I think Simple Minds sing this song better. Jim Kerr pours his heart into it more...

  • @MsDarqfyre Have to agree with that assessment. Too bad he didn't do a version of this in his prime-- would be interesting to hear.

  • @MsDarqfyre interesting thing about that is that Simple Minds didn't even want to do the song. and then they kind of just forgot about it until Breakfast Club got huge.

  • Liebe Billy Idol <3

  • This is one of my favorite songs to have sex to.

  • @VictorJhonson I had my first time to this song .., accidently xD So: Yeah, that's right :P

  • damn that music MAKE me FKN happy I wana dance !

  • the breakfast club sent me here

  • billy is the fucking man

  • I remember that I in the last year download to my Ipod this music. But the version was different. Please, if someone of you guys, know what i'm talking, pass me the other version or give me the link where I can find the original version. It seems that version in this video is current.

  • according to SongSense.info Idol sang it AFTER it became a hit. H eturned it down then later jumped on the bandwagon by recording it.

  • The history of this song in wikipedia

  • this song was original written for billy idol.

  • Billy Idol does a wonderful job. Been interesting if he had not turned song down, but I do agree he might not have been able to take it to number 1! I am so glad that he came back to it years later! I like him doing it better than simple minds, although I understand alot of people would not! Rock on though, I love it!

  • I never knew he covered this...cool.

  • @Punktowner The song was originally written for Idol.

  • @AmadeusExcello Oh wow -- had no idea!

  • @AmadeusExcello True.

  • Comment removed

  • Not really a cover! He wrote it!!

  • @Planedoc1959

i thought keith forsey wrote it

keith is billy idols producer and has co written a few of billy idols songs in the past

  • Damn! this is sick!

  • @leebedy71 ur damn right, even as a big ferry fan tho, i dnt think he wudv got a no.1 with it like minds.. Great song tho!

  • love it!

  • Simple Mind's song is much better than this...

  • @LOLE1991KOVIN it was written /for/ billy idol. he turned it down.

  • In my opinion, Idol's version in much better than Simple Minds. This version rocks!

  • effing amazing, especially live - billy rocks!!!

  • originally meant for billy, but given to simple minds

  • @juke52 this was originally for brian ferry (roxy music) but he turned it down. It took months for kieth forsey to get simple minds to do this track. Jim don't like it but it's a crowd pleaser for most MINDS fans

  • i know he originally wrote it, but someone put it out, so sorta a cover sorta not

  • i can't get enough of this cover

  • I like Billy, but Simple Minds' version is better......just my opinion...

  • This song was originally written for him......but it didnt make the cut during that time....until Simple Minds gave it a go....and eventually made it No.1.....Billie must've been gutted!

  • Better than the original.

  • goddamn man if only i could tell this guy what this song does for me man. well if you know him or know someone who does tell them to tell him ramon says thanks a lot man. you make life life.

  • Très belle reprise, bravo Billy !

  • I love the music of Billy Idol, and this cover is interesting, but he is right @beawheel, the original version of Simple Minds will remain by far better.

  • this song was written specifically for billy idol to sing, but obviously something happened or whatever, i don't know...look it up,

  • Comment removed

  • Love anything Billy Idol! never gets old for me

  • if you listen to the simple minds version, somes parts sound like billy idol, interesting enough this song was originally offered to Billy Idol but he declined it..now he coverd it

  • harmonica!

  • simple minds version is still the best - but billy idols' version is interesting and actually not bad. maxfox

  • whos version was played on the breakfast club at the end ?

  • simple mind's

  • as much as i love billy i do think simple minds do this better, his l.a. woman is better

  • I like this better than Simple Minds version. Even though Simple Minds performed it originally.

  • Great song - I imagine he wasn't too happy after he turned it down and it went on to become the worldwide smash it did. Written by his producer as well!

  • amazing cover, i loved him when he played kool haus in toronto few years back.

    hope he comes around again!

  • this one is a damn king!

  • @Nagaran2417 yes lol

  • Hell of a cover!! I love this song!!

  • @marine7977 This isn't a cover. This is the original. Idol backed out of the Breakfast Club soundtrack. Big mistake on his part.

  • @marine7977 This is not a cover: in a recent book, John Hughes loved listening to Simple Minds but did not want Billy Idol to perform it. Idol did not want the song, and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds did not want the song either! But he would perform it if he could add "Hey! Hey! Hey!" to it. So all three agreed.

Notes: John Waite rejected Open Arms. Bryan Adams gave Straight from the Heart to Bonnie Tyler before he recorded it. David Bowie did his version of China Girl.

  • @marine7977 It's the original. Simple Minds covered Billy Idol

  • @marine7977 this was originally his song.
