Sir Basil...you already know I think you're the best! I never heard this version of the song prior to "discovering" it today. That being said, I remain a Jesse Belvin/Fleetwoods guy. Beyond that, I love the Four Seasons and consider myself a "Jersey Boy" having graduated from high school there although I have not resided there for decades..."Keep On Keepin On" Sir...
@tunesmith09 Thank you. I was a big, big Four Seasons fan in my teenage days. This is a great version, given that classic Four Seaons call-and-answer treatment.
The A-side was Stay. My girlfriend Caridad and I wore out this side in the juke box at the Monroe Sandwich Shop on Duval Street on Key West in 1964. Great tune.

This is STILL my favorite version of this song.-- after all these years. It was the flip of something else on the local drive-in's jukebox and I used to play it all the time on my lunch hour during Jr high school. I only know this as a "B" isde--not from an lp. I love Frankie's voice on this. It kicks!
The Seasons had some terrific renditions of "traditional" doo wop oldies in their own distinct style..."Goodnight my love," Little Darlin," "Sunday Kind of Love" and so on. Too bad they didn't put out a special collection of doo wop favorites.
The 4 seasons early albums had some real gems like this [ bob gaudio was the whiz kid on stay surging the power on the guitars to get them to sound just right ] .
This is my fave version of this also. I LOVE the Fleetwoods, but this version of this is my all time fave. I used to play this on the jukebox at our hometown drive-in.(Corwin's-Whitmore Lk Michigan)
I used to say the Fleetwoods, but this has to be favourite version too. That rippling piano, punchy rhythm, and distinctive call-and-answer sounds great. And great fade-out.
This rendition should have been a significant hit for the Four Seasons, but may have been too much in a "doo wop" vein during a period when young people were looking to create a new sound. Still a great play.

This song was on the flip side of "Stay" which was an early 1964 hit for the Four Seasons.
