Riki Lindhome... She's... bi? GOD DOES EXIST! *holds arms open* I loved her before, but now... wow... She's beautiful, funny, a musician, caring, honest... She's the worlds most perfect person.
My friend was leaving to Taiwan for a semester. We started hooking up 6 months before she was going to leave. The whole time I knew she was going to leave, and tried to avoid getting super attached as did she. We would spend a lot of time together and sleep in each others beds all the time, hold each other, crack jokes, and half the time "I couldn't be around her when she had her clothes on."
All I can think of now when I hear this song now is her.
@Hazelnutfilling I worked it out on ukulele; it's (A), D, Bm, G, A then for the chorus it's Bb, Ab(?), D, Bm, G, A. So, I THINK (don't quote me on it!!!) it would go (E), A, Fsharp, D and chorus would be F, E, Fsharp, D, E. I think.
@xokatiewox I've never heard that she's a lesbian,and her Garfunkel and Oates songs often concern men. She's just referring to a man in terms that are usually reserved for men singing about women, with ambiguity in one of the lyrics. Sarah McLachlan could sing, "You're so beautiful" fifteen years ago and nobody questioned her sexuality because she then clarified, "A beautiful f- up man", but that too was considered innovative for soft-rock at the time.
why diid this song come on pandora on jon lajoie station like they play garfunkel and oats but like this song was so out of place i liked it but still i was like wth i was waiting for the comedy on it
@DJGabeSills Is she? I wondered, based on the song, but thought it was a bit ambiguous. The "want a girl like you" comes after a "you say" line. I like the ambiguity. :-)
@DJGabeSills I don't think she is, at least not full time. IMO that's what makes the relationship extra fragile, and the song so aching. She knows the girl is going to find another girl who's more suited to her, and so will the narrator of the song. The narrator just doesn't want to admit that it's not only the girlfriend who's unsuited in the relationship.
@KyrieMikomi Who? I'm assuming you're privy to her dating history (of which I admit ignorance) because there's *nothing* in the song to imply the object is under 18.
@kaitzi Blaaaah. Won't let me trash my comments like it use to. Youtube is evil. My last comment was going off of what you had said was prob due to a misread but *shrug*.... *runs away* DX
The people who dislike this song aren't worth knowing as human beings. As people? I'm sure they're fine. But they no longer matter to the evolution of the species.
@CaptainAntlers The lyrics are a bit confusing in that verse. It's hard to tell when she is speaking for herself and when she is quoting the person she is speaking about. By the next line, "I think you're funny that you tell me that," I assume the other person must have said that.
On the other hand, the first line in the song is "You're so much younger than me," so it makes sense that this person is 22 and she is pointing out that she is not as young as her friend is.

God I love this song. And it is possible that she likes boys AND girls. Bisexuality, it exists.

As Riki is 32, I assumed that 22 was the age of the girl she's singing about....
