A kids tv show extolling the virtues of honour and friendship. Part of what's really, really sad about watching this clip is that not only will we who loved and grew up with it will never have those days back but also kids today will never, ever be exposed to anything that tries to promote 'un-PC' values like honour and friendship in this day and age.
did the last lyrcs say kids are pointless la la la la also when dogtanion was fighrting that other dog you do have a whole room you know no need to fighrt in the same spot i blame it on the script
I remember watching one episode when I was very little in my grandmother's house in Mexico(they like showing old cartoons as much as new ones over there) and this little tune stayed in my memory until today when I finally decided to search for it! wow I can't believe I didn't try searching for it sooner xD
I find it so sad that Cartoon Theme Arrangements aren't given ANY recognition just because they were for children. If you listen to The Dreamstone intro for example, it uses a FULL ORCHESTRA for gods sake. But so what if it's composed on synthesizers? These are the most melodic & effective songs ever composed. All made with real passion, & no money. They should be a LOT more appreciated.
Even when I was a kid I thought this intro was crap... apart from the teeth grindingly naff theme tune, the editing and choice of clips is badly put together and incongruous... then again, I was a miserable kid...
I have always loved the epic theme tune to this one - two mins long! No kids show today would have a two minute theme tune.....and such a brilliant one as well! (the Willy Fogg 80 Days around the World theme is also epic!)
@limpade1 If you like animated features, I recommend Unico. It's a 70's Anime before they called it anime. There were three moves, I've seen two and they are superb.
In all their adventures, our musketeers hold true to the two virtues that should never be forgotten.... honour and friendship!!! now those are life lessons you do not get in todays cartoons.
great, back in this day we had no sky plus or internet, you played outside for a while with mates, thats why we were not a fat bunch of 80s kids then we had to be in to watch this or other cartoons or you would miss it, simple
One day me and my dog will be able to slice an apple in the air. Say... If Chuck Norris was a musketeer named something tanian, then he is DOGTANIAN IN THIS? Cool!
@kriscrockard Because you got older? Yes, me too. I loved this show... I can't imagine looking forward to any programme now as much as I did this one in the early nineties.
@number1slayer back then they took pride in there cartoons, lot of them were from like small movie companies. then the bigger 1s take over and cut corners.
i'm a guy but this is so cute and it me cry sometimes. sad now coz my kid's gonna grow up watching shit. i swear now i will horde all this good stuff and he will watch proper cartoons that expand imagination and teach good lessons in a fun interesting way. not that night in the garden crap. make him bedwet all the time. yuck
there was a different version of this, does anyone know where I can find it? where he popped up through the clouds there was like a key change with barking?
i used to live for this program lol im so pleased to have found every episode for sale on dvd sets lol gonna make my kids watch them, also found loads of other fantastic 80`s etc classics on dvd sets and singles. About time they sampled real entertainment, ben 10 take a back seat man, let the real legends through!. Thanks for upload!
@mrbedford that is so true, honest these cartoons i used to watch beat ANYTHING on todays TV, to many brats wrapped in cotton wool on there xbox, dam I was out playing till 10.00pm at night with my mates football we used jumpers for posts and lamppost lights to see oposite my house i was like 8 or something, I am pleased I grew up in the 80s and 90s rather than xbox and playstation
Whilst I'm not going to debate whether cartoons are better or worse now I do take issue with your comments regarding computer games. The Playstation was released in the1990's (late 1994). I played football, watched cartoons of that era AND then played playstation. And before that, in the 1980's I played on my Nintendo.
@sub7AV Woah woah woah! Woah! You don't touch Playstation! Everything else I agree with!
But Spongebob Squarepants is so immature. Because it allegedly has ''some adult humour'' it's,like,SO SPECIAL! Even though everything has adult humour! Doesn't mean it's good!
@sub7AV I had consoles n that, atari 2600, amstrad cpc464 and spectrum zx, amiga 500, megadrive ect.. thats aged 6-13 but i still spent 89% of my time with my mates playing futy till late, i duno somthing wrong, boys wearing pink top these days and yet its cool, if a biy wore pink in the 80s-90s they would get LOLd at. In primary school a mate of mine told the teacher he knew the lyrics in French. She asked if he wanted to sing it to the class and he said he did. He didn't actually know the French words so he just jabbered nonsense to the tune for a minute and sat down and everyone clapped.

I remember this. I used to love it. It is amazing how long the intro was. Kids programmes today are just not as good as they used to be from what I have seen.
I totally agree. Have you noticed how long the intro is? Intros for today's shows would never be as long as that. Kids wouldn't have a long enough attention span.
I am so grateful I had such a great childhood, partly thanks to a wonderful network of family and friends, partly due to amazing cartoons like this!!! Bring back the 80s/90s I say!! xx
@jilliebean3000 its called subliminal messages, ur subconcious mind picks up the words withour u realising it. probably explains why we grew up so horny. its worse now, kids nowdays are already trying to get laid but now we have the great internet. they can just type sex in google and see how things work down there
Guido and Mauricio deAngelis who wrote the theme song for this, also wrote the Willy Fogg theme. Also they wrote an album track for ABBA's Agnetha Faltskog on her 1983 album, wrap your arms around me. The track is 'Stand by my side'
Search for it, and there is a hint of Dogtanian in the style!
Talk about pure GOLD! Is this a real show? I love RARE shows like this. I wish The Hub, or Cartoon Network would focus on getting blocks of these to air on Saturday & Sunday Mornings. Imagine the ratings they could get. All of us retro fans now have kids, nephews, young cousins. We would watch it, then also get the kids in our family to watch it. Networks would make money on shows they don't even pay to produce now. Why can't they get that in their heads? Thumbs this up, and spread the idea.
@karl578 I swear I just died when I read that, i think i died again when i checked it at 1:03...then i think i died a third time when i saw the part...way too funny! brilliant
I loved this. It is pleasant to see this again.

I remember this. I used to love it. It is amazing how long the intro was. Kids programmes today are just not as good as they used to be from what I have seen.

Damm I miss the real cartoons :), cartoons today can't light a candle to these :)

@twistedleafpro
I totally agree. Have you noticed how long the intro is? Intros for today's shows would never be as long as that. Kids wouldn't have a long enough attention span.

@ukchristian28 hahaha tell me about it, lol

I am so grateful I had such a great childhood, partly thanks to a wonderful network of family and friends, partly due to amazing cartoons like this!!! Bring back the 80s/90s I say!! xx

I always think they sing "shagging everything with fun" around 0:30
and "kids are pretty corny" around 0:44 =D

@jilliebean3000 haha, i heard that too. and at 1:02 it sounds like they sing "they drink their beer and swear..."
ohmygodnoddy 1 year ago
@ohmygodnoddy Its because the singers are trying to "bark" their words to match the dog theme.
AngelEmfrbl 1 year ago
@ohmygodnoddy thats because they do. The full line is "they drink their beer and swear they're faithful to their king"

@jilliebean3000 its called subliminal messages, ur subconcious mind picks up the words withour u realising it. probably explains why we grew up so horny. its worse now, kids nowdays are already trying to get laid but now we have the great internet. they can just type sex in google and see how things work down there

@jilliebean3000 That's the product of a diseased mind
