the dewpoint can only be as high as the current temperature. for that to happen, the relative humidity has to be 100%. thanks elle. I knew glycerin wasin't good in certain temperatures but I didn't know which temp. Now I do.
I adore your hair! So cute! I'm transitioning right now, planning on big chopping in February '12 and was searching for things to buy before then. I've been transitioning for 3 months now. A friend that went natural a few years ago recommended this. You've become my inspiration. Pardon though, what hair color do you use?
this morning i used it (oyin honey dew then curl keeper then oyin pomade) and the dew point today was 70 so I wanted to see how my hair would turn out. it was frizzy and not extremely frizzy and my hair curls were still visible but i see what you mean now with the dew points. very helpful information i don't think anyone else really stresses that
hey have you ever tried cashmere curls from the CURLS line?? If so please let me know how this compares if not ... its a serum and i love love love it! You should try it.
Hey Elle- If you had to choose, which of the finishers would you pick.... Curls in a bottle or Curl keeper? Would like to purchase but am uncertain which to try. my hair is not as thick as yours....
I really like the idea of this product and got a small size to try based on your comments on NC. If its a lower rung type CIAB, then I wonder if it can go over Eco/CJAFG in the right dew.
Nice review . Since you don't use water to reactivate your hair. How do you reactivate? just curious!! Thanks. I notice atlanta dew points today was 63, Therefore I should probably stay away from the glycerin right? I notice that my hair looks a little dry, but not brittle feeling becuz I use donna marie buttercreme and hair mist in the morning. I apologize for the long commnent. LOL
@lynn1959100 Your hair may be fine with glycerin in a dew of 63, but for me, after 55 it all starts to go haywire. The Buttercreme and Mist both have glycerin so if you hair is frizzy maybe you think it looks dry? People often equate frizzy hair = dry hair, but that isn't always the case.
@denimpixie Thanks, what you said about the frizzy hair = dry hair, not being the case statement. When other people ask to feel my hair they always say it feels soft. It sounds like I have a frizz problem. I do layer my hair with CIAB. I have soft fine hair with medium density. I used pk -eco styler with smooth-lotion/CIAB.
Now that's what I needed! I needed to understand the dew points and glycerin relationship and you nailed this explanation. Now I can examine this more! Thanks girl friend!!!
I might just try this product because I live in the dirty south ATL home of humidity and frizziness.
@denimpixie Yeah, dews are in the mid 60s to low 70s here in ATL. But the humidity is like 45-50%, sometimes lower, so it's not as muggy and gross as it should be, and actually feels quite optimal (at least for my hair).
@denimpixie Was just trying to figure out a way to still use my fav leave-in/gels that have glycerin regardless of the dews this summer. I haven't found any products that I like that don't contain glycerin so I'm trying to figure out a work around. Thanks
i have a sample i am yet to try, that would do 1 go, so i am going to give it a go. Have you tried the Tweek (i hate it) or the Extendzz yet? nice review as per usual!
@louloumatou I had a sample of Extenzz and tried it....HATED it! I thought it was really greasy and coating. I wouldn't buy a full bottle to thoroughly test it. And thanks!
@louloumatou hahaha, i hate that crap too! i have the 2oz sample bottle, tried it once and washed it out! lol :) but i have to say that the tweek thing is worse!!
Hey girl, as usual great video! I have samples of this stuff and was afraid to use it, not sure what to do with it. So, now I'm gonna try it tomorrow as a refresher in the morning. But, I'm probably going to buy the Curls in A Bottle bc I'd rather have something that works in all dews! :-) Thanks for all your great reviews!! XOXO
I got some but couldn't figure out how to use it!lol It probably is because I thought glycerin was the bomb all the time but the dew point where I live is just too high! Can you recommend alternatives without glycerin?
@denimpixie THanks for the suggestions! I googled the knotty girl but couldn't find it, do you know any online store that sells it or either a ground store like walgreens?
@jackofalltrades82 It's sold online at American Apparel (I know, right?) and La Peer Beauty Supply. I live by La Peer so I buy it on the ground there. You can check the Knotty Girl website to see if they sell it someplace around you - I think they have it at some stores in NYC.
Thank you for the review. I hear ya about the dew point situation. Just last week, I used lavish curls moisturizer, which has glycerin as the second ingredient. I did a twist out and the next day my twist out was so puffy and frizzy. I think the dew points were high plus the humidity did not help.
@Alisha10000000 Humidity is a relative percentage that is determined using a very annoying and complicated calculation involving the current temperature and the dew point. That's why it's relative, humidity shifts as the temp shifts, but dew point is more accurate to determine the moisture in the air because it's an absolute temperature.
@humbledbythemosthigh Thanks! I don't color my hair anymore - I previously used henna and indigo but stopped in February b/c I'm growing out my natural color.
Ok so.....my neighbor gave me a huge bottle of this a couple weeks ago (and some other stuff from this line) b/c she didnt think it did anything for her hair. When I went online to look up the product line I saw the price for this big one (WHOA, she must like me) ...anyhoo. I will be using this again, I almost forgot about it. I have fine coily hair that tends to do well with 'liquidy' stuff.
@kmissthang To be honest, not really except using lighter products so your hair does not get weighed down. I diffused my hair a little bit today b/c I was in a hurry, but my hair is naturally thick and pretty much always big. Some people say that castor oil also helps thicken strands.
can u plzzzz tell me how u got your hair this red, I just tried a developer then manic panic n it ruined my hair:(

jjac401 8 months ago
@jjac401 Your dew point is probably higher than your hair likes and there is too much moisture getting to your hair.

Elle, do you think that if your finisher doesn't have glycerin that it can sorta counteract glceryin in your leave-in or gel? Was just wondering..

@naturalstateofmind No, because most finishers do not have sealing ingredients.
