I really don't understand all the dislikes.
Whether one agrees with Wilson or not, he's calmly explaining a position - and specifically telling Christians to avoid some immature responses in terms that will be acceptable to them. He speaks kindly of Hitches, and seems to genuinely hope the best for him.
Even if you completely disagree with everything he said, this doesn't remotely make sense of all the vitriol here.

Hitch was no less committed to the anti-theist cause at the end of his life than he was at the beginning. For Mr Wilson to suggest that Hitch was "publicly nervous", about his position on matters of faith, is opportunistism at its worst. Hitch was committed to exposing frauds, charlattans and crooks like Mr Wilson to the end.
