Nice demo dude. They all sound nice in there own way. I bet any one that I could plug into any of those amps and smash out a tune! And they ALL would sound shit lol
The Fender clean is the most musical to my ear. The Tech 21 clean does not sound really clean. The Peavey sounds kind of sterile, which surprises me after reading sine if the other comments, although I've always thought Peavey was budget stuff in terms of quality.
Oh yeah and GREAT playing BTW man... Really great sounding, I love that last rythm/lead piece you did at the end of each amp's segment. Great review/thoughts a the end too. Thanks for taking the time to share mate. Cheers.
Oh and to whoever was asking about the PV overdriving the MIC... spot on aye. That 15" speaker in the PV moves ALOT of air and those camera mics (and alot of other non-specialized mics) get really sensetive to air movement... think windy day at the beach and all the scratchy white noise that generates. THe PV will have GREATLY more bass responce too because of that air movement. Putting a bass port on the cab would be interesting.
... I'm simply amazed at how VERY short an ammount of time it's taken me to be a complete snob about amps. I just bought an older style PV Classic 50 in tweed and it's canged my mind about what a nice warm "gooey" and full clean tone can be. The Fender is to me the deffinition of "bright and chimey" and the PV DB (15 I'm guessing???) is just a more "full" sound... The Tech 21 just has kind of a flat and more lacking tone to my ear. Could easily be due to the camera's mic though so...
Tech 21 would never cut it for the BLUES--the amp has no " snot "--sounds like a candidate for elevator blues--Fender is okay--but if you want that bluesy grit the EL 84 tubes will break up hard picked and stay clean when you articulate. I switched --after touring with F back in the 70's and having nothing but problems with their current garbage--Peavey Delta is just that--best out of the box blues amp--with my S/S or Hum DiMarzio loaded custom guitars
I like the Delta blues the least. Too nasally sounding. Fender has that high end chime, but can't cover all the bases the Tech 21 can. Winner = Tech 21 for overall versatility to me.
It sounds like your tubes are stuffed. Get your amp to a tech to test the tubes and fix or replace them. I had the same problem and got a freaking amazing amp tech to mod the amp. Now, tone heaven... :)
The microphone is clipping badly on the Peavey demo. Whatever you may think of Peavey, this demo doesn't do the Peavey justice. They sound much better than that.
The fender has a nice vintage sound, but this type of sound is very hard to put in a mix. The tech 21 sounds dryer, but more well behaved in a mix. The peavey sounds too high and emphasizes strings picking too mutch. Thats my impressions from this video!
Very nice review man. And you are one of the best guitar player on Tube.
Fender is my winer, Tech 21 is nice, but one can "feel" that SS character (difference on dynamics between tube and SS). Peavy is to bass heavy for my taste.
I've had all three of these amps. I think the fender has the best clean and reverb. But, the OD is awful and useless. The Peavey covers everything well, nice clean, nice OD, tremelo, good reverb. I didn't care for the Tech 21 at all. Except it had good reverb. If I was to choose, it would be the PEAVEY DELTA with 2x10s
@motokev sweet thanks man. I tried a Delta 2x10 it really struggled at higher volumes got kinda flabby, but maybe it was just me :) All 3 of these amps are now sold. I am using a customised Blues Deluxe Amp and a Vox AC30 now, both are really cool! Cheers for the cool comments
@intheblues I also sold these three amps and moved on. I have owned over 60+ amps. Yes, I know its a sickness (GAS). My current amps are the Victoria Golden Melody, Bogner Shiva 1x12, 6L6 and a Tone King Imperial. The Victoria is the best sounding amp I've owned and it works well with pedals. But, its LOUD and POWERFUL. The Bogner is a nice amp, great cleans and OD. The Tone King is amazing, just a beautiful vintage fendery tone, much better than any fender i've played.
Fender Deluxe has far more spank and sensitivity. Tubes truely are far more responsive and organic but for the money you cannot argue with the Tech 21. Wow, those guys have really done something genius in so many different ways with such a wide variety of products. Id say that have thought of everything. Greatly anticipating my PSA1.1
Wow the Fender Deluxe knocks my socks off every time no matter what demo I click. Something about the sensitivity to fine nuances it handles well and the clean chords always sound musical and full.
the fender deluxe tone is unforgottable. I used to have that amp and it has some of the cleanest tones available for tube amps. The tech 21 sounds good too. The Peavery sounds FAT and scooped on the mids I loved it but I feel it has limited applications.
4 a solid state amp, plus made in the u.s!! and no tube replacement!!!easy on the enviorment!!i like the tech 21. and the fender was awesome!!! the peavy was a bit boxy for my taste gr8 shoot out!!!!
Not fussed on the Peavey - from this (nice) demo I'd definitely go with the go Fender but then again I wouldn't as I know the Tech 21 can do so much more besides what's in the demo - I have a PSA-1 and an XXL by Tech 21 myself.
haha,, that peavey sounds muddy,,absolutely no sag,,those peavey speakers are cheap i guess they'll never get that,, they keep trying to advance the amp but keep the same shitty speakers. tech 21 sounds alot better than the peavey but you can tell it is solid state,, it has pre amp tubes but a solid state amp output. i would take a vintage fender amp any day over the others,,but honestly the tech 21 has the better sound of the 3,, and i HATE solid state amps!!! my unbiased opinion
I thought they all sounded good in different ways. I know that he Fender probably has great presence live, but the Tech 21 would have the versatility. The Peavey was good, but a little honky IMO
Fender had the best sound imo, which it should for that type of sound. I really like those tech 21 amps, such a great range of sounds. How much did you pay for these amps?
The fender sounded glorious , best of the bunch, the tech 21 sounded tighter but was superb for a solid state amp, the peavey sounded like crap and that surprised me.
Great Demo!! Your a good player with lots of tone just from your fingers..The three amps sound very good..but the one I would have to go with here is the Tech21..amazing tone!!
For low down Gretschy thumb pickin', shimmering 50s chords + valve twang a la Chet it's got to be the Peavey. Great for blues, jazz and rockabilly too. Simple, classic design.
The tech21 is more 'modern' + 'versatile'. The ideal amp for an unknown gig or studio session as you can get anything out of it. Records well too.
I own both, love 'em both, so it's horses for courses depending on the gig. Mine's the tech 21 t60 1x12 btw, so nice & portable as well.
@DannyDesperate How much gain does the tech 21 get? I'm using an orange tiny terror at the moment, and it does the job on the most part, but i seem to be moving towards this old hybrid laney combo i've got which uses the seventy 80 speakers as well for the odd song. For my gear at least the tiny terror does it all but that odd song...it'd be nice to own something other than a backup amp that could get that little bit more haha...
I go for low down & clean as opposed to dirty, although I'm not above warming up the tone occasionally. I generally use p90s or DeArmonds or Filtertrons or Lace - none of which have output stakes, but kick if needed. The tech21 needs to be tweaked, but the range of gain is impressive. Plus: you own your own sound. Minus (?): you have to work on it.
A Vox VT30 has ez tone at your fingertips and is worth checking alongside the tech21. At the right price a versatile buy!
I liked the fender the best-most 3 dimensional and "full" sounding, the peavey 2nd best because the mids were a little to "humped",although the clipping did interfere with accurate representation, and last, the tech 21 to me was just okay, it sounded very 2 dimensional and the mids were "papery" sounding. Great playing by the way!
Just found you for the first time as I am considering a Trademark 60. This is a great video comparison and although I like the Fender slightly better, The Tech has the XLR out and other features that are important to me - I bought it. Thank you.
Same pickup position on all three demos? The Fender just has a way more bell like tone than the other two. I liked the Peavey the least. That doesn't really surprise me though.
The Tech 21 is a lot thicker sounding almost sounds like you're using humbuckers there.
on this video, the Fender and Tech 21 both sound great with full bass...the Peavy however sounds honky (midrange dominant) with less full bass .....strange considereing the 15" speaker
All 3 are really nice sounding amps but Peavey is totally different beast among all of them. Very interesting sound! Definitely make some HQ reshoot and please drop me message when you do. Thanks for such unconventional demo!
Thanks man! it's good fun to get some stuff out there. Pity the camera clipped a bit on the peavey, I might have to re-shoot this with mics on each amp

Is that a tech21 trademark or power engine. If its a power engine there's no preamp. The power engine is a powered extention cabinet not a amp.

@gtarmn75 Yeah I was thinking the same thing. This comparison is moot.
