This is cool, but the model is still just 2D and the face won't rotate side-way. I accidentally discovered this company Visualsize (search Visualsize on Google for web address) that can construct all kinds of 3D models - partial or complete - using photographs collected from random locations around a 3D object. They can do 3D faces of real persons! The technology of Visualsize is really cool and I haven't seen anything like it.

amazing -- you can imagine the possibilities.... all this came straight from a 2d photo.. *the one seen in the start..... imagine for example this tech on a mobile phone... and then have its lips animated with voice..(not lip synced that wouldnt happen for years)...but simple animated mouth movements -- you could take a photo of your g.f have it on your phone, and when she called you could watch the single photo come to life, mouth animated whenever it detected noise...great..

The reason some people thinks this looks so fake is because their only source of animating the 3D avatar is a single picture. Imagine anybody trying to do that. Think about it, this technology, which I think is Japanese, is very advance(compared to others). Nobody else probably can make a better job.

Yeah the mouth is pretty fake, but i think part of the issue is that her face isn't completely relaxed in the original photo. If you look at the very beginning of the clip, she looks like she's pulling her lips in a half-smile, and subsequently her mouth always looks a bit stretched.

That, and the lip-syncing is dodgy.
