Its more than funeral music ......... its comfort, its fare well, its giving the leaving greet, hope for those still on earth to learn for the lightfilled empire ..........
What a beautiful piece of music and done by none other than the wonderful George F. Handel. This version is so tender and is done with such compassion. Praise God.
Wonderful piece - I can´t understand that a person could give a "thumb down to it" This music is healing like Bach´s largo. Both pieces are equivalent!
To alilapointe1 .... Well it is a Largo, but if you cannot hear the moving poignancy of the violin score you have a hearing problem, in my humble problem! To restrict your listening capability to just two composers is a sad state of affairs. Try harder is my advice alilapointe1.
i can understand u so well. it was played on may grandfather's funeral two weeks ago. and it was my mum who "played" the "singer-part" on the flute for her father.
she had played it on another funeral about three years ago - they had recorded it and gave the cd to us.
I agree. Even today, Mozart sounds like he is from 2-3 centuries ahead of our time. I just wonder what the reaction of crowds was back then in the 2nd half of the 18th century - girls screaming and fainting at Tyl's theatre in Prague while listening to Piano Sonata 16, Rondo alla Turca and so on.
I would agree with you, except that I would probably agree to have Jewish music played instead, since that is what I am. that is how I would feel if I ever got married as well: I would love to play, for example,Pachelbel's famous Canon in D is my bride and I march up the aisle, but I would not want to cause controversy among my Jewish familyand friends, so Jewish music would be played instead.
Just another little tidbit. This piece is mentioned in Thornton Wilders "Our Town", and played by Mr Stimson during the first act.. The Paul Newman as "Stage Manager" version on DVD is OK, but it's a play that needs to be seen LIVE. The staging of a performance of this play by a local church made tghis a very poignent experience that brought me to tears by the end.
Exactly. Several years ago, I was in a production of "Our Town", appearing as Doc Gibb. The actor portraying Webb brought in a recording of Handel's Largo, which led our sound directlor to ask, "What the hell is that?" Ultimately, Editor Webb and I became lovers, the second time this piece of music played a significant role in my life.
This was played at our wedding--30 years ago! It was played for the processional of the bridesmaids and me, the bride!! It is very inspirational! I love Handel's music!!!
Most people actually consider Beethoven to be the greatest of them all, but my favorite is Mozart. The way I see it, is that Bach is very cerebral, Beethoven is very emotional, and Mozart is the healthy balance in between the two. And I think that if Mozart had been born when Handel and Bach were born, that he would have written music very similar to that of Handel. Put another way, I think Mozart is a continuation of Handel rather than Bach.
@alilapointe1 ... Well it is a Largo, but if you can't hear the beautiful poignancy of the violin score then you have a hearing (or perhaps a listening) problem. To restrict your music library to just two composers is a very sad situation. My advice to you alilapointe1 is to try a little harder.
@almosten thank you fo making laugh, but honestly he made some good baroque music but he lacked personal charachter he would have never composed don giovanni or cosi fan tutti too risky for his position don't you think ?
While I can think of some other exquisitely beautiful pieces of music by such giants as Bach and Mozart, I cannot really disagree with you here. These three minutes of music is absolutely astounding. When listening to this music, I feel as if G-d Himself is embracing me.

stop giving credit to people who had nothing to do with it. God didn't write it, and I am getting seriously sick when people claim he did. Handel was an extraordinary man and he, and only he, deserves the respect for this piece. Not your imaginary being, keep it out of it. I am rather happy to know that this music was written by a human, because it tells me that there still is good in this world. God on the other hand fills me with disgust.

I wish that the day I died, Xerxes is played at the right moment I pass away.
Not because this is funeral music. It is heavens music.
What I mean is I would die with piece of mind if this music is being played at that very moment.

the only two artist who's music deserved to be listened to are mozart and beethoven and all the others were on the payroll
employees ,handle left 20.000 pounds when he died ,mozart and beethoven left drats of the best music ever
know tell me how boring is this handle ?
