Correct - this drive is being played back much faster using time-lapse recording. It's a relatively short drive, but the average speed is closer to 20mph. I do hit the 55 mph speed limit when I take the by-pass, then traffic drops to under 15 mph. As a matter of fact, one day a friend of mine was able to bike to work on side streets faster then I could drive it on the freeway.

Your route is my regular route. I live in MV and commute to Irvine almost everyday. If I have to commute in rush hrs, I like to avoid 405 and use Alton instead.

At 0:11 I knew exactly where you where. For me to know where this was shows that the human brain is amazing. I've never lived here. 30 years ago I lived near Trabuco and Marguerite, but this was never a route I took on a regular basis - on very rare occasions I would use a shortcut here to avoid traffic. MV used to always have this amazing thing to keep from getting lost in a housing tract: follow the street with the white stripe on it - it leads out. Most people didn't know that back then.

Hey, your time lapse videos are amazing! Haha, also like the way the song was utilized here :D. Question though, how did you keep the camera steady up in the front of the car while driving? Did you have the camera mounted on a tripod or was the camera placed somewhere in the car where it could remain steady for the whole ride? It looks like the camera was placed over the speedometer in this video. I want to start making some good time-lapse videos. Thanks!

I use a mount that connects to both the headrest and the camera is connected in the middle - it cost me about $80 and works great. I'll be doing some off-road videos soon.

Great video - reminds me of when I used to live in the States. I drive just like you do (efficiently!) because you have to in Thailand. Don't let these other people bother you about your driving - you get where you're going faster, it's a basic survival skill.

Though it looks like tailgating, it took me almost 36 minutes to go about 12 miles, so the average speed was under 20 mph, many times under 10mph (which my car idles faster then). It looks a lot more daring when played at such a high speed.

Those are the same dirty tricks I use when I drive the 405. Coming back south on 405 I like to drive fast on the Culver exit and pass tarffic then pull back into the freeway last second. I can never get into Mission Viejo during rush hour. 405 and 5 meeting is soo jammed so I just bust out on Bake.

After doing this drive 5 days a week for over a year I've gotten pretty good at knowing which lanes go faster - and thanks to the truck bypass I use, I save at least another 15-20 minutes on the drive. This drive is running at 10x real time. Keep an eye out for my upcoming drives down PCH, Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood, Sunset Blvd, OC to Las Vegas and more.
