He is drawing a causal argument from a correlational phenomena, which is unscientific and misleading

Furthermore, his position is extremely weak, because all it takes to prove he is wrong is a hot year in 2009

Fielding is trying to prove a negative, which is very difficult. It's like trying to prove God doesn't exist. Hard to do.

B. The climate change argument is mostly about feedback mechanisms positive and negative and the balance of them in the atmosphere. Most of the observable data suggests that it isn't strongly positive at all.

A. 2009 isn't over yet. Furthermore, a warm 2010 would prove the null-hypothesis. I think in time though, say a decade, unless we have another series of hot years like we did in the early part of this decade, then Fielding's position looks more credible. But his position is still very weak as it's easy to disprove, and his reasoning is still unscientific (i.e. drawing causal conclusions from correlational data).

B. I'm not entering into the debate on whether the conclusion per se is false.

A warm 2010 wouldn't prove anything of significance. Again you must prove that the atmosphere is dominated by positive feedback's to the extent that a 1.0F change is amplified almost 10 times. This despite the fact that the last 10 million years has been dominate by ice ages suggesting a small positive or net negative feedback processes.

The data shows that some of the biggest feedback they got all wrong. There is a negative humidity trend in the atmosphere for starters.

I would say that the current alarmist view of AGW is based on casual conclusions based on an incomplete understanding of the climate system with some poor data thrown in for good measure. My view of the null hypothesis is that warming from CO2 is minor unless feedback's amplify it, which there is little evidence for.

You are correct, warming from CO2 alone is minor, relative to the amount of warming that would be produced if a feedback loop started amplifying it. There's little evidence because thankfully it's all theory at the moment

But your position is completely at odds with Fielding's. He says that there is NO relationship between CO2 levels and temperature, not even a minor one. And it is this silly statement that I have been attacking.
