You made some good points. Actually I never use the featured video system of Youtube, maybe because I'm kind of imune to pop-up or adverts on the Internet now (can't even see them). I found Smosh and RWJ while I was searching for random things, totally by chance, so I guess it's fair : I'm not brainwashed. Maybe Youtube should not spam people who are already so popular, you're right. I love them but their is better content as you said.

- WaffleAfterHours: For being a rather talented artist. Shame that he deleted most of his stuff by accident almost a year ago and did it again it 2 more times a couple of months later.

no matter how crude the entertainment, ray and other popular you tubers are providing something millions of people apparently enjoy. they "deserve" the ad revenue as long as there is a demand which is grounded on personal enjoyment. however there needs to be a way to filter out all the crap for those looking to watch something else and those who might be interested in something else, maybe some you tube recommendation system like in netflix but more sophisticated.
I suggest TribeTwelve (3k~ subscribers). I think TribeTwelve is an absolutely brilliant addition to the Slenderman 'mythos' or project. Far better than its more well-known counter part Marble Hornets
I love tonnetta vids, he is nuts, and queer as hell, but typically community channel viewing. Totaly agree with this parody flick though. It's hard to find good content though, as, you have to dig to find it.

Anywho, in terms of my favorite people on YouTube with less than 5k subscribers... There's Boonehams, a dude who does HILARIOUS "Inappropriate Soundtracks" for movie clips. Highly recommend it. There's also gregplaysthestick, a RIDICULOUSLY underrated guitarist who plays a chapman stick. Check him out. Seriously. One more... While they do have 19k subs, they deserve WAY more, and that is Those Aren't Muskets. HILARIOUS comedy group. Highly HIGHLY recommended.

I don't know how many subscribers it has, and I'm too lazy to go check, but "Tales of Mere Existence" is easily one of my favourite things on the internet ever. So unique and such hilariously good writing that you can relate to.

You may find yourselves disagreeing with a lot of what he says (he has a whopping 5-part video detailing why BioShock* - one of 2008's Games Of The Year - is merely "Okay"), but that's fine; it's good, healthy, intelligent debate.
* For the record, I personally flippin' LOVE BioShock... but I can also see where the guy's criticisms are coming from.
I heartily recommend antisocialfatman's channel. Typically a lot of internet reviewers will include skits and reaction shots and so forth in their videos, and when these are done well, granted, they can be very entertaining - there's a good reason The Spoony Experiment is as popular as it is. Antisocialfatman on the other hand merely shows gameplay footage whilst discussing the various facets of the game under review - the more straight-faced side of videogame journalism essentially. That said..
I admit I did start watching RWJ and I liked it, but overtime I grew weary of the show, for the exact same problems you mentioned! While this video isn't the first video I have seen that makes fun of RWJ, or the style of show, I really have to give you credit for talking about this issue in an intelligent and adult way! Shows like these or "vlogs" are no more than serving the low and of the lowest of humour. Its not creative, its just commentary on videos, rather than fun and exciting videos!
The only defence I can think of for the RWJ "style" of video is that YouTube should at it's core be a champion of free-speech and the lowest common denominator still should have it's place in that world however banal and tasteless it's content should be. Sadly the lowest common denominator is also the MOST common denominator in all media... Just be thankful that real talent is always praised by people eventually, however small in number those people may be.
My favorite channel is Geminilaser. He does video reviews/walkthroughs/showoff videos (exact quote from him) of Mega Man games, and adds audio commentary. he's really hilarious, tells information that you either don't know or wouldn't notice, and his gameplay is really entertaining to watch. He doesn't upload too often, but when he does, it's worth watching.
Sadly my friend it is the Fail videos that will get the views over any of us. The humans enjoy watching the pain of others more then anything else. I can not fault Ray for doing what he does because yes he sold out and now the world knows who he is. He got what every human strives for, being seen. I will always watch everything you do because I believe you are Brilliant and can Change the world. Don't let them get to you.
And I'm not saying artists shouldn't want or expect to be paid for their services, but when they start caring about money and fame more than they do about the quality of their work, they cease to be an artist.
I understand your outrage, but people like rwj are just promoting themselves and, honestly, the battle for popularity and money is a shallow, soulless competition befitting of stupid fart jokes, plagiarism and videos of cats looking cute. Artistically, money is meaningless, just a way to survive, and striving for money can never come without some artistic sacrifice. Looking for a good youtube channel is like looking for a good anime or Wii game. There's so much shit out there to wade through before you find a gem. I happen to consider my discovery of your channel one of those, if only for your acknowledgment of Legacy of Kain.
I have popular channels in my subscription list, but I find that I only like one or two videos in their whole upload list. AkewsticRockR you are entirely correct about the state of Youtube. I don't think it's gonna change though.

I also believe that Ray William Johnson got to be so popular through a combination of his "fail" and "doin your mom" jokes and his segment at the end where people leave silly quirky comments and they he posts it for the next video. He's involved with the community and interacts with them more than most other content creators can say. I'm not saying this is why he deserves to be so popular, I'm saying this is why he's so popular.
Okay, I agree with you on saying that youtube should be more than a time wasting site but on the other hand, simply saying something is crap (especially when so many others enjoy it) doesn't make it true. People like different things, have different tastes and youtube videos are subjective for the most part. I'm not gonna defend Ray William Johnson because that would be stupid but I watch his videos and he can be kind of funny in my opinion. I also discovered him by accident.

I don't really watch channels. I either watch the big ones that I'm subscribed to or I just search up what I want. More than anything nowadays I use Youtube for music so I end up on the VEVO channels.
You did this video quite well and the message was pretty clear. Sadly though there aren't many channels off the top of my head that I can think of as far as who deserves to be noticed (and trust me, there are a few that really deserve it.) It's sad that YouTube has been reduced to the quality it is now.
I understand the point you're trying to make, but... I disagree with the method. Your message really does ring true, but I find it very difficult to take it seriously when it was prefaced with a rather mean-spirited parody of another Youtuber.
Maybe it's my own nativity, but I don't believe we can return to the community that we once had if the voices speaking out start by tearing down the people who are bigger than they are.

You may find yourselves disagreeing with a lot of what he says (he has a whopping 5-part video detailing why BioShock* - one of 2008's Games Of The Year - is merely "Okay"), but that's fine; it's good, healthy, intelligent debate.
* For the record, I personally flippin' LOVE BioShock... but I can also see where the guy's criticisms are coming from.

I heartily recommend antisocialfatman's channel. Typically a lot of internet reviewers will include skits and reaction shots and so forth in their videos, and when these are done well, granted, they can be very entertaining - there's a good reason The Spoony Experiment is as popular as it is. Antisocialfatman on the other hand merely shows gameplay footage whilst discussing the various facets of the game under review - the more straight-faced side of videogame journalism essentially. I admit I did start watching RWJ and I liked it, but overtime I grew weary of the show, for the exact same problems you mentioned! While this video isn't the first video I have seen that makes fun of RWJ, or the style of show, I really have to give you credit for talking about this issue in an intelligent and adult way! Shows like these or "vlogs" are no more than serving the low and of the lowest of humour. Its not creative, its just commentary on videos, rather than fun and exciting videos!

The only defence I can think of for the RWJ "style" of video is that YouTube should at it's core be a champion of free-speech and the lowest common denominator still should have it's place in that world however banal and tasteless it's content should be. Sadly the lowest common denominator is also the MOST common denominator in all media... Just be thankful that real talent is always praised by people eventually, however small in number those people may be.

My favorite channel is Geminilaser. He does video reviews/walkthroughs/showoff videos (exact quote from him) of Mega Man games, and adds audio commentary. he's really hilarious, tells information that you either don't know or wouldn't notice, and his gameplay is really entertaining to watch. He doesn't upload too often, but when he does, it's worth watching.

I can not fault Ray for doing what he does because yes he sold out and now the world knows who he is. He got what every human strives for, being seen. Looking for a good youtube channel is like looking for a good anime or Wii game. There's so much shit out there to wade through before you find a gem. I happen to consider my discovery of your channel one of those, if only for your acknowledgment of Legacy of Kain.
I have popular channels in my subscription list, but I find that I only like one or two videos in their whole upload list. AkewsticRockR you are entirely correct about the state of Youtube. I don't think it's gonna change though.

He's childfreindly, and is rather professional, and he's the perfect face of gaming, loves all types of games (His favorite genres include Zelda and such, but REALLY wants to play Gears of War, he loves his 3rd person shooters)

I also believe that Ray William Johnson got to be so popular through a combination of his "fail" and "doin your mom" jokes and his segment at the end where people leave silly quirky comments and they he posts it for the next video. He's involved with the community and interacts with them more than most other content creators can say. I'm not saying this is why he deserves to be so popular, I'm saying this is why he's so popular.

Okay, I agree with you on saying that youtube should be more than a time wasting site but on the other hand, simply saying something is crap (especially when so many others enjoy it) doesn't make it true. People like different things, have different tastes and youtube videos are subjective for the most part. I'm not gonna defend Ray William Johnson because that would be stupid but I watch his videos and he can be kind of funny in my opinion. I also discovered him by accident.

I don't really watch channels. I either watch the big ones that I'm subscribed to or I just search up what I want. More than anything nowadays I use Youtube for music so I end up on the VEVO channels.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but... I disagree with the method. Your message really does ring true, but I find it very difficult to take it seriously when it was prefaced with a rather mean-spirited parody of another Youtuber.
Maybe it's my own nativity, but I don't believe we can return to the community that we once had if the voices speaking out start by tearing down the people who are bigger than they are.

@AkewsticRockR That is true. But I don't think Youtube sucks, and I think that RWJ speaks to a different demographic. There are still many Youtubers who look for actual content, and the people who make that content are often noticed because they stick with it toss videos up consistently.
