  • you live in the same complex as photonicinduction ?

same type of yard and fence

  • No....I dare say I am many miles away.....

  • Very nice!

Starts well and runs better than before!

  • Thank you, the running on load has helped to settle it down.

  • @steamwally

    Yes that helps a lot!

  • Nice display. I was thinking if you were to put a 45 degree elbow on out put pipe and move it closer to the side of the bucket it would swirl in the bucket and keep the splashing down.

  • Thanks, I have tried that bit if anything it was worse. I just have to keep the water level down and it's ok.

  • Hi Phil, I get my V belts from the local car accessory shop. Its called Wilkos but it may only be local to my area. I measure the length I require with a length of string, measure it and then go and buy the nearest size as well as the next longest and shortest. As I know the guys pretty well they let me take the ones I dont wont back and give me a refund. Car V belts the part number includes the length so you dont need to give car details. Worth investigating in your area.

  • Very nice, I see you got your new belt then!

Thats the only 2 things left to do with the lr1 is add some eylets to put steaks through and 2 clips to hold the earth rod in storage

  • Yes indeed, it was awaiting in the letter box when I got home....typical! It was an allmost perfect fit to start with, but a little tight so I just loosened the engine bolts and moved it foward a few mm, I go by the old rule of thumb that there should be about 1" of deflection.

With the eyelets, put washers on with them so you can screw them tight into the wood and put some wood glue on them too, they tend to work free otherwise.

  • What does it do ecxectly the coold start lever? Mine have but I dont know what it is For! That is a good think that you did an oil primer, well done.

  • The start lever is on the fuel pump and controlls the amount of fuel that is injected into the cylinder. For cold starting it is pushed up, this provides excess fuel to raise compression. As soon as the engine is started it should be pushed down.

The oil prime is needed in very cold weather, so I made my own! It wasn't necesairy today but I just included it in the video.

  • @steamwally Thank you for the info.

  • No worries.

  • @steamwally I went to the garage to check my petter levers and mine is with a spring inside keep it self always up (fuel lever) so when the engine is running I want to keep it down? Even the de-compreser, I want to keep it when I am starting the engine on half compression and then it keeps down. I am the same age of you 16

  • Your engine could be different to my AD1, I have seen a few variations. If the lever will stay down then that is correct but if the sprig makes it return to the same possition then I would imagine that is correct. Move it with the engine running, mine will missfire and slow down if it is on execess fuel.

You want the de compressor engauged (no compression) whilst cranking fast and then when you think it is turning fast enough, push the lever all the way down (full compression) and it starts.

  • @steamwally Yes, When I push it the down the engine slows and if it`s cold it will turn of (Fuel lever). Thanks I know about the de-compressor. I shut down the engine from the intake with my hand because the stop lever doesn`t work. I want to take off the Petter from the mixer and take a video, because the mixer is under a stairs and it is dificult to take it outside.

  • Hmmm. I would sort that stop lever out without delay, I and a friend were working on an old diesel a while ago and narowly avoided a nasty accident with that and a belt getting jammed in the flywheel whilst belt starting a small engine, the stop switch saved the day....

  • @steamwally Tell me something, what does the oil do? My Changfa also has an oil inlet and the manual mentions putting a few drops for cold start. Does it raise compression or what? I started mine a few weeks ago, 10ºC or a bit less and it started 3rd pull.

God work on your engines and exhibitions ;)

  • You've hit the nail on the head, it raises the compression and that is usualy needed in cold weather, you must be careful of using too much oil as you can easily hydraulock an engine like this.

    Cheers,

    Phill.

  • Magnificent!

once I get some more floor space I will finish my diesel compressor set :D

  • Cheers! It's a noisy little thing but great fun.

Look foward to seeing your Compressor set up and running.

  • Good video Phill, Great little Petter Diesel you have there.

  • Cheers :)

  • Had enjoyed the video of the petter what a lovely diesel grand Mr Sheppard

    Regard's

    Dan

  • Glad you did! It's so nice to have a unit like this which is so light and easy to move. I plan to buy some hose couplings soon and then I can put it to work propperley.
