vocals for the win ... or maybe they are not totally hammered like 1/2 their previous shows hahah... but who can blame them... playing drunk is so much fun ... love 3eb
It all has to do with how the health of the singer is at that precise moment. Anything off can & will have an effect, no matter how small it may seem to the average body, it will have a huge effect on a singer's voice.
you worded that perfectly. I think SJ is at a disadvantage as a singer already, so on his good days he sounds fine, but on his bad days, he sounds pretty bad.
I love 3eb. Favorite band and they have helped me through a lot of ignorance and every song reminds me a different part of my life....but something about them live does not impress me. There solid enough they just don't seem to have any emotion which I can't believe I'm saying because on record, they shove their emotion down my throat whether i like it or not.
The problem is that they don't have as many layers live because it's just not possible. To add to that, Stephen Jenkins really is not that great of a singer live. He's actually pretty terrible. I'd still pay to go see my favorite band though :).
It's been 12 years. Different band members. Different guitars. Different equipment. Different sound. Same awesome fucking band. Listen to Red Star. Listen to Why Cant You Be. Thank you.
i actually feel that his voice has gotten better over the years. in all honesty his old live performances weren't really impressive. i feel very differently about that now.
@nurfbar Stephan looks older cuz its 2011 & he's turning 47. He has to look a little older ...since the late 90's, when 3eb started. I think he looks damn good for almost turning 47. He doesnt do drugs, thats why he looks pretty good. In fact, he's the same age as me & he's the man!
@kerouac28 Stephan was born in 1964, its now 2011 he will be 47 in Sepember. He's the same age as me & both our b-days are in September too. If he acts immature, its probably on stage. In fact he doesnt act immature, he just likes to have fun & does his own thing, his own way, nothing wrong with that. I've met him & he's a really nice guy. He's the man!
His voice has gotten so good live, it used to be very borderline but now he's on pitch perfectly every time. It's great that they've only gotten better, and now the shows are smaller and packed with total die hard fans. I love the environment, and he's clearly talented enough to keep doing this for a long time.
While the shows have gotten smaller and more packed, the weird thing is that the crowds are getting younger and younger. Gotta love the power of the Internet and shout-outs from Panic at the Disco, Eisley and The Killers.
These guys had it good way before PATD even started producing albums. They never needed help from those guys or eisley and the killers. to be honest it sounds like PATD and the rest are all conforming to what MTV wants to hear like FOB. Their music is changing and going all weird. Imo Third Eye Blind is unique in a sense of there lyrics and sound. They never change they never will. Too bad Arion left the band, gonna miss him.
i agree with you. i love 3eb and i don't care who loves them as much as i do... but the fact is, the internet and the recent love from more "current and trendy" bands are what keeps kids discovering their music.

Actually, the first song they came out and opened up with both nights was "Thanks Alot" if you can believe that. Had never heard them do it live. Was an excellent surprise. Stephen F-d up the lyrics in the very first verse, so I assume that's why they used "Losing" as the opener for the production version.
I love this song!!!!! I miss the 90s =(

He tenses his neck a lot, anyone ever noticed that?

I think it's just this song, when he sings parts he isn't to comfortable with, or has to strain to get it kinda thing.
rs3nik 2 years ago 2
i'll have to agree with some of the previous comments -- his vocal performances on some of the older live clips are not nearly as good as this one.
Either his voice has aged well, or he has taken live performances a lot more seriously. Maybe even a combination of the two?

It all has to do with how the health of the singer is at that precise moment. Anything off can & will have an effect, no matter how small it may seem to the average body, it will have a huge effect on a singer's voice.
Slight dehydration, slight sleep deprivation, etc.. Anything.
That is why the performances have such a variation. Imagine singing hours at a time day after day. Endless tours.

Aged? He is about 43 at this performance. That is pretty good, won't you say?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
you kiddig me, look at dave grohl..he is getting younger by the show and that is how the live sound should be.
i used to be a huge fan of 3eb and will always be, but they have faded each day for me

He may be 42, and much older than the other three members... But definitely the life of the party and the most valuable member of Third Eye Blind.
BunnyManJoe 3 years ago 2
whats stephan's age? i really love this song, reminds me of me.
nurfbar 3 years ago
Unbelievably, the man is 42.. A very immature 42 if you've ever witnessed the fellow's behavior. Oh well, still a genius.
kerouac28 3 years ago 4
he looks older.. is it because of drugs?
nurfbar 3 years ago
I don't think so. I believe he's pretty much clean; at least nowadays. Bit of a health nut from what I've heard.
kerouac28 3 years ago
Maybe because its been over 10 years since they hit mainstream and 10 years shows some age.

@nurfbar no lol. it's called aging. people get older
