i believe that wayne gadner that hit franco uncini in think it 82-83 and he did live.

Uncini survived the crash though had severe head injuries.Returned in 1984 and finished 14th in the championship,retired at the end of 85 and is now the Moto GP riders rep for safety.

If you were in his position, you're first instinct would probably be to run off the track as fast as possible. He didn't get a chance to think about what would happen if he stood up. Not to mention even being able to process that after hitting the ground a few times at god knows what speed.
