Gotta love Billy. I was one of the 25 people to win Machina II from radio staion Q101. it was the 2-CD set. Too bad they're no longer with us. :-( This was many years ago, maybe around 9/11, hell I don't know. Anyway, I was at work, called in to the radio 1station and won it! Sweet! I was off the chain excited to win that. I like In My Body first, Saturnine second and Dross as my top favs.
billy Corgan has perminatly left a part of him in all of us who listen to his music today, some people say hes selling out but i belive he is just openning a new chapter in music, music is how Billy captures the world in his hands and i belive he should never stop and most kids toda y listen to shitty music like cody simson or justin bever or what ever but im the different one who listens to real music. ill never stop listening to the pumpkins even if im consisder an emo or a punk for it so be it.
love this song from Machina II... as always Billy was ahead of the curve releasing that album for free on the net. I love Teargarden so far... A Stitch in Time, Astral Planes, Freak, Tom Tom... my favs so far. I have been honestly surprised the music is so good (was a bit disappointed overall with Zeitgeist... although Stellar is IMHO one of the best SP songs of all time) Billy is an inspiration!
I've always seen the pumpkins as my favourite band, and yet i've never heard this song! Im still finding classics that they didn't put on their albums! Thank you Pumpkins r.i.p
I can't believe I ever disregarded the Smashing Pumpkins, I thought they were so different then what they actually were. I heard Perfect on the radio and searched it up at home..found out it was the Smashing Pumpkins and things took off from there. Definitely one of my top favorite bands.
@Eztli92 Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music
.. it's free for download all over the internet. It was legally placed on the internet for free by Billy when it was released. So you don't have to worry about getting in trouble or whatever.
It's just so hypnotic, so haunting, the lyrics are the kind that make your skin tingle, "wasted sunsets, haunting my torment", so beautiful and melancholic, it defines the sound of the pumpkins so perfectly, I love that this song or the album was not released to the public in stores, only the true fans have this and its so rewarding, thanks for posting this and letting me remember countless days closing my eyes and letting the song drift me away to far away places...
@jessekwoozy What do you mean "we miss this Billy. Come back to us?" Billy is still making great music and hasn't gone anywhere. I just saw him in Seoul, Korea 2 weeks ago. It was awesome. I saw him in Las Vegas 2 years ago. Billy is one of my favorites of all time.
@fatcatbuzz haha yeah! he came to singapore as well in august! Im so glad i got to see him before he stopped performing altogether. cuz you know the pumpkins were around for a long time and im still just 15 so i feel real honoured that I got to see him and even touch his hand. billy is the man
@blacktheory It was definitely great to see the original band back in the day, but they never will get back together. It's a shame, but Billy still puts on a great show live. Mainly because he has mad skills as a guitarist. When Gish and Siamese dream came out I was a teenage in high school. Other than Hendrix, it was Billy Corgan was my biggest influence back then. I always loved that wall of guitar and feedback thing they did. Even though Nirvana was great, Billy was better at that things.
@fatcatbuzz I would hate to see the old lineup back together Darcy would giving Billy the evil eye and flipping-off the crowed like she did during her last days with SP, James would be want to get it over so he could go home, and Jimmy would be board and wanting to do his own thing. That would be unbearable to see, I would rather have my memories of the band as they were than new memories of a miserable band.
@nicholsjoshua15 I totally agree with you. And Billy really was the heart of the band. Even though I wish Billy would just be a solo act, it's his right to do what ever he wants to do with the SP name. I have seen the old Pumpkins and the new one. Here in Seoul in fact. I still think Billy puts on a great show. Even though I'm not a fan of the new material, I still love Billy's live act. Let's just hope he doesn't continue to sell his ticket for $80 (in Las Vegas, or 100,000₩ here in Korea)
@nicholsjoshua15 I don't hate all of Billy's new stuff and some of it's quite good, but I don't care for all of it for sure. Maybe I'm waiting for MCIS part II or something. Like I said, I still love the live shows, but I don't think I can swing the money that is being charge for tickets. I saw them in 1996 for $30 and for free in 1998 in my home city of Minneapolis. In 2008, I saw them in Vegas for $85 and this year in Seoul for 100,000₩ (or about $88 US). That's the last time I pay that much.
@fatcatbuzz Yeah but from what I here concert tickets will be around 25$ dollars or 40 US dollars. I saw R.E.M. one time for free Micheal Stipe, and Mike Mills did a little acoustic gig at the airport in Atlanta. Georgia.
@nicholsjoshua15 Nice. I love REM. I just hope that the next time they are in town the ticket are cheaper. But, if I stay in Asia for a while, I think they'll be expensive know matter what.
@Iknowgoodmusic I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the new stuff. I grew up with old school Pumpkins, being a fan since Gish. And really can only say I've listen to the new stuff a couple of times. I like "Freak" though, and they did play it lave. I just saw the Pumpkins about 2 months ago and have to say that I think Billy is still great live.
But, you make a point that I was just thinking about my self. I wish Billy would go back to concentrating on the music a little bit more.
@fatcatbuzz I agree with you the old style is what I like as well and people think you have to like everything Billy puts out to be a true fan. I like pearl jam and stp but some of their new stuff just sucks.
@Iknowgoodmusic To me, the Pumpkins from 1988 (I hope Billy will official release some of that stuff one day, especially on vinyl) to 2000 will always be the real Pumpkins. I have to admit that I wasn't too happy when he decided to continue the name. But, I guess it's just that, a name, though I will he would have just stayed solo. I'm glad I got to see them as the full line up. I even liked seeing the band the last two times. I wish Billy would concentrate on the music side a little more.
Billy Corgan has undoubtedly burned his thumbprint in music forever. That voice is just unmistakable. When you hear a song like this, so good that just listening to it once can alter your outlook on everything around you, you know it's SP. There is not one song from this band I don't love.
@dropdeadbrunette lol have you listened to Corgan's latest material? you better haven't unless you want your precious SP memories turded down the toilet
Is this the original version that was available for download as part of Machina II? The sound is much clearer and less fuzzy, and also a little slower, than the one I have. Great tune nonetheless .... my favourite from Machina II.
exactly!! I appreciate melody and thats most of the skill like the STP brothers and Mark T from Alterbridge makes the songs great. Billy writes and sings and that takes a lot of skill. But to me melody comes first
I found that when it comes to The Smashing Pumpkins, some people can't get past Billy Corgan's voice. As a huge Pumpkins fan, I can definitely agree that it's an acquired sound.
It's a shame that some poeple can't appreciate melody over vocals, this is a seriously beautiful tune. :)
I can understand the screachy stuff they don't like, but he can sound pretty cool when he does the softer voice thing. He did less of that in Zwan and same with his solo so I didn't bother as much with those. Plus I couldn't find matching musical levels as it is with the Pumpkins.
Ya man you can get it for free, look it up on wikipedia. Watch out tho, some of the links lead to better audio files than others. Some of them don't sound as good.
My favorite from Machina II, this song sounds so familiar to any pumpkins fan and oddly enough, it could fit in well in any period. I've been a fan for 15 or 16 years now and I feel this "sound" is quintessentially BC/SP. More of this in the future and I'll be a happy man!
There was a lady who was walking in the forest with her dog and was killed. If u r reading this, then u will find a dead bloody body hanging in ur closet. U will be haunted and killed by her. to stop it posti this to 6 other videos in 30 GOOD LUCK
it's interesting that you say that cos to some extent i feel the same way. i think a lot of us hard core early fans do but that doesn't mean we stop caring and supporting his music. i still manage to see beauty in his current music and i appreciate it but it doesnt speak to me like it did when i was a teenager.
i agree but i think almost everyone kinda feels that way about ther teenage years and the music they listened to at that time. A special time in everyones life even if the experiences wer bad.
Hmm, that's an interesting point. However I'm only 20 and personally I much prefer his works from Gish to Machina than I do on Tarantula and his new stuff. And it's not b/c I listened to his earlier works when I was younger LOL (I bought Tarantula before I had Machina I/II). But I still like the new things too. Maybe now that he no longer has Chamberline his songs will be more innovative (like it was on Adore).
i hate men like this. they make you fall in love with them. is there anything else to life? billy c. could do that till he dies. his sound causes reaction in any woman, his words, in any man for that matter (ahh?)
oooohh shittttt!!!!!!!!!fuck i havent heard this one for a while it was my all time fav of machina 2 fuckin amazing!! amazing pscyadelic gloomy feel! fuckin absoulty a work of art!!!!and i would have to say that is one of the coolsest fuckin pics ive ever seen !
I remember listening to this song around Christmas of 99'. My Dad was dying of Cancer and did pass that following May. But this song, strange as it may sound will always take me back to my last Christmas w/ my Dad. I will never go a Christmas without listening to it and reflecting my time w/ him and especially that Christmas.

it's interesting that you say that cos to some extent i feel the same way. i think a lot of us hard core early fans do but that doesn't mean we stop caring and supporting his music. i still manage to see beauty in his current music and i appreciate it but it doesnt speak to me like it did when i was a teenager.

i agree but i think almost everyone kinda feels that way about ther teenage years and the music they listened to at that time.

For all that are wondering, this song wasn't released
It was on the unreleased album Machina II: Friends and Enemies of Modern Music.
Also, 'Real Love' which was on the greatest hits was from that 2nd Machina album

Jimmy is such a tight drummer!
And I love the colorful production work in this song! So bright and illuminating!
Am proud to have been exposed to this; as I've never heard it before!

I sometimes dance to this song in my room, i love the way Billy expresses emotion with his guitars.
I especially love the guitar solo on this song,
for me, it is an expressesion of years of hurt, sorrow, darkness and loneliness.

i hate men like this. they make you fall in love with them. is there anything else to life? billy c. could do that till he dies. his sound causes reaction in any woman, his words, in any man for that matter (ahh?)

Machina II is a great album. Too bad it wasn't released in a better version. I think it was released from record to web to us. Poor quality.
