Gotta disagree with The Aviator. That was his worst film by far, and was famously made only because DiCaprio really wanted to tell that story. Pretty lazy filmmaking.
HEY GUYS...I WOULD LiKE TO WATCH A REVIEW OF SHUTTER ISLAND!...if you made it please tell me the link or where i can find it!!!, for me is brillant...the weekest film of those 4 for me is GANGS of NY and still i love it...it is a very good film!...now he make HUGO!!...im glad the path of MArty in recent years, trying new things, he won that right after so many GREATs! films in the past! This is the man who madeTAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, GOODFELLAS, THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, AFTER HOURS among others!
The Departed is a piece of shit. Infernal Affairs was far from perfect (the sequel is amazing though) but it's astounding at how bad the script was for The Departed. Not only did it actually create plot holes the original didn't have but it was also a racist movie by having a white man insult Chinese people in movie that is a remake of a Chinese movie!
Letters From Iwo Jima and Babel were more deserving of awards that year. The Departed won simply because the Oscars owed Scorsese.
@DaRunningMan THE DEPARTED is not GREAT like so many others films MArty has done, but is not a "pice os sh...!!!, name 1 plot hole, it isent racist film!!, stop seraching thing that they arent!...the narrative, the performances, the directions, the suspense in some scenes, it is a very good film, and it is a remake!...I think i
it was the best directed movie of 2007, not necesary the best film of that year. The script was terrific!...what did you see?,what arguments you have to those statements?
@Gaston088able I can name a bunch of plot holes. How is it not obvious to Nicholson that DiCaprio is undercover? In Infernal Affairs, Ming was undercover for 10 years, so that makes sense that Sam couldn't figure out who it was. But in the Departed, DiCaprio is undercover for about only a year and the heat starts piling on the gang and all that Nicholson has is a hunch??
And yes, it is a racist film. Racially insulting Chinese in a remake of a Chinese film is disgusting and a disrespectful.
I'm curious to hear all of your thoughts on the works of Wes Craven? Or how about a show on what you all consider the best moments in horror movie history? Another thought, Mario Bava?
Brilliant commentary guys across the episodes. I've watched most of your reviews and this one hits the mark what I think you after. A great discussion, paced as it should be, not rushed and just enjoyed for the nostalgia of watching the movies of this epic director. I felt like I was part of the discussion and enjoyed all of your nuanced chat. Again Brilliant - you guys aced this whole episode. It deserved the 4 episode tome and I enjoyed every minute of it.
@kgdblade Many thanks. Glad you enjoyed this episode. I really had a lot of fun on this episode. While we shared many of the same opinions, we had plenty to discuss.
I love that you put up all those text corrections for when people don't know what they are saying. That way I don't end up shouting at the screen "It's Alan Dean Foster, Eric!!" as I did during the Star Trek show.
That's awesome. BTW, never been to NY, but I'm spreading the word here in Mizzou. Keep up the good work, and give us a Cronenberg or Cameron show one of these day.
We have already covered most of Cameron films on other shows, so to devoted one to him seems very unlikely; however, I do think we'll be doing a Cronenberg show in the future. We'll most likely wait until he releases his next film though. Thanks for the support. Hope you'll consider participating in our video submission contest.
it's been years since i saw gangs but i remember hating it and thinking it was more like a musical than an historic piece. i guess i better give it another go.
also...i hate to knit pick but....new york the most important place in history??? i disagree...it may have the size but it doesn't have the vigor and historical importance of other places in the u.s, and further more the world
@WalterLiddy The man is my idol - I would love to do it, but I don't know how to go about it. Would we discuss him as a producer or director? If so, which films to choose? He made a lot of them!
Eric is love with the camera lol. in a good way

I was so pissed that Leo Dicaprio wasn't even nominated for The Departed. This would've won it for him, and I still believe that.

Life Lessons is amongst Scorsese's best work and definitely Nolte's best.

Good show. But Edwin, you have to ditch that hat. It looked like you had half a head for alot of that, due to the black background.

@darkstorm979 That's not the hat - I really am missing half of my head.
