I'm 25, diagnosed just two years ago type 1. I am all about tight control, and every A1c I've had since diagnosis has been 5.3 or below! Thanks for posting videos like this. I, like you, do not know any people with Type 1 other than online, so it's nice to be part of a larger online community. You're gorgeous, and a great example of proper diabetes care. Keep it up!
I'm awaiting results of fasting blood test as I'm showing symptoms of diabetes. Had a blood test done jan 2nd BG was 8.0 nurse said it was high, I'd not eaten since 8.30 night before, it was around 11am following day, it was tested 3 days later after my breakfast and it was ok said the nurse but told me to get it checked. I was told about 3-4 years ago I was boarder line diabetic BG was tested for a week highest level was 11 after a meal, lowest was 2 before breakfast, but nothing else was don
Thanks, this helped a lot. My sister got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes yesterday. She is only is 4th grade, and 9 years old. She is in the hospital waiting for her blood sugar level to stabilize so she can go home. I want to help her as much as I can. <3
Im 15 only been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 weeks ago, ive found out i cant do the profession i was studying for (pilot) now im worried it will stop me from doing other things in my life i want to do. what kind of things does this stop me from doing and does everything turn out OK? x
DIABETES SUX. Ive been diabetic for 10 months now, and im 15. I cant study the career what i want.. I cant be part of world championship.. I cant travel alone.. I cant live alone..
I cant do anything.. My boyfriend left me because i got diabetes.
F*ck this sh*t. Id kill someone if i could be normal again. ):
Yo, i'm 17 and got diagnosed with type 1 a month ago, seriously thought that my life was over XD. Would just like to say that reading similar stories and watching this video has made me feel a lot more comfortable and a lot better about myself , so thanks guys :)
@notjustapples hi, thanks for the video. I think i might have diabetes type 1 but i am really scared of needles, so my question: does the fingerpric hurt? I didn't go to the docter cuz i'm scared that i might have diabetes. Any tips?
hi, im 12 years old and have type 1 diabetes, and i have been told that 1 cup of the mc.donalds milkshake is the same as 6 bags of popcorn! how is that possible?! is the fat food ppl use to eat THAT MUCH of carbohydrates and suger?!
@mincraft4real milkshakes that aren't made from scratch tend to have a higher amount of carbs - if you go on the mcdonalds website, they've got all the carbs from all their meals in their nutrition advice docs, and a pdf of the ingredients. a shake has well over 100carbs (some of them are up to almost 150!), which is due to it's being mostly refined sugar
@Vokus Grow up. Im 17 and Im proud to be diabetic, its made me who I am today and Im stronger because of it all you have to do is look after it and make sure people know about it and understand it.
I am in post production on a narrative film about a family coping with their son's diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes. My goal is for the film to show people a glimpse into the lives of T1 families and what we go through. You can see a sample scene in my video list or search DxONE on Facebook.
hey, im 14 and got diagnosed about a 3 weeks ago, does this stop you from doing everyday things in life and how much would it affect you in later life?
@iiModZilla it only stops you if you allow it too! if you take good care of yourself, eat right and exercise well, then the affects should be pretty minimal i hope :)
Hi, been type 1 for 30 years now & have always wanted an insulin pump but the NHS wont give me one! haha After 30 years ive now signed up to a research program on type 1 diabetes at Ninewells hospital in Dundee & have just discovered that i have never had the anti body test which distinguishes type 1 from a type 2! Very little chance i will be type 2 but if it turn out i am...i might sue the NHS for misdiagnosing me all them years ago! haha
@notjustapples Oh...aint heard any more about the research program! lol So aint been hooked up to a treadmill or anything like that! Im sure they working on summit though! haha
my story is exactly the same! i was also 11 years old. i had also lost a lot of weight and had been constantly thirsty/going to the bathroom. i felt sick at school and went to the nurse, i was soooo pale. my mom took me to the doctor. yup. im 18 now wooo lol. but yeah its so nice to hear others stories about it
How do you deal with other peoples ignorance and the stereotypes that have been caused by type 2 diabetes. I am not diabetic, my oldest son who is 10 was diagnosed two years ago and I struggle with the rush of anger I get from people who dont understand the differance and find myself calling type 1 'real diabetes' and I know that is not constructive...so any advice
@knowthediffspreadit great question! i've actually been dealing with that a lot lately here in australia. i've been told i have 'bad diabetes' so many times - and it really makes me angry. i just tell them it's actually called 'type 1' and try and educate them a little and answer their questions. i will hopefully do a video about this soon :)
@knowthediffspreadit they are both real. before you say i don't know i am type 1 as your son is. advise don't give up and calm down when they say things like that. if you need a reason to think of it as providing an example for you son on how to act. i personaly know the annoyance of misinformation but the best way to deal with it is to be calm and and explain the difference.
Hey, just found "you". I was dx'd with T1 about a month ago, at the age of 33. My brother, T1 about 2 months ago at the age of 31. I found out I had it though since I was 22 (pregnant with my only child). I'm SOOO glad I found this video--it's in "laymans" terms so that duffuses I work with can understand what I have to do to manage properly. And NO, my body won't EVER get "used" to insulin shots so I have to take less. I subscribed!!! :) Greetings from the USA!
@Vokus hey ..i got it at age 19..now 43.. and its been a total bitch. i also feel its ruined my so called life..one cant be normal with it. emotionally and physically it fucks you up. and here i am..still kicking..its a challenge..perhaps that's why i have not killed myself just yet. and please for those of you who dont have type one.. dont bother typing anything. thank you.( cause you have no clue ) and for those who have Type one. ..like Vokus....hang in there..:-)
@Vokus i am so sorry to hear you feel this way - i go through days when it's hard, but there are so many other things that are much worse than diabetes. stay positive :)
Have you seriously looked into the 80.10.10 diet by Douglas Graham? You eat a lot fruit and plenty of vegetables, occasionally a bit of nuts and seeds and stay physically active. I guarantee it will reduce your need for insulin. For type 2 it will eliminate it.
Thank you so much for both the inspiring blog and now this channel!
While I don't technically have diabetes, I've suffered from other eating-related issues and look high-and-low for alternative diet and nutrition advice. Your blog led me to life-changing help!
