Air Travel is not suck, it's depend on what airline you will fly.
Air travel is AMAZING when you fly Lufthansa or Cathay Pacific in first class, but it can be your nightmare if you flying with RYANAIR in economy class.
funny how people pay nothin expecting to get a five star treatment , y not pay $10000 bucks for dubai to toronto then complain if u aint gettin five star on an A380 emirates
To everyone who whines about how crappy airline travel is I challenge you to do what they do. Fly a plane, manage the instruments, land SAFELY in foul weather, manage a major airline company, deal with a pregnant lady chewing your ass out at customer service, work long hours, gone for days on end, etc. Once you've experienced hwta they have to do 24/7 365 days a year then you can whine all you want but until that time shut up and just be thankful that you get to where you want to be SAFELY.
Thing is, the more we fly, the crappier it gets because the airlines are trying to make it cheaper, at the expense of luxury and conveniance, international airlines, like in europe and Asia, make you pay like, a LOT of money for lavish things, if the airlines did that, no one would fly.
We take technology for granted. We live in an amazing world and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of just spoiled idiots.
When people come back from their flights I always hear: "We didn't board for 20 minutes, they make us sit there for 40 minutes." O REALLY? WHAT HAPPEND NEXT? DID YOU FLY THROUGH THE AIR INCREDIBLY LIKE A BIRD? DID YOU PARTAKE IN THE MIRACLE OF HUMAN FLIGHT WHILE CONTRIBUTING ZERO? YOU'RE SITTING IN A CHAIR... IN THE SKY!
I personally try to avoid flying if possible, and try to make the route simple and straightforward with time between legs.
There is just too much security, and too many passengers trying to go somewhere at once. On top of that, the airlines seem to only care about making money rahter than passenger comfort.
I fly about once a month, obviously not as often as you, but still, more often than most people. People just don't understand the system. They bring 10 large bags for a two week trip. They don't read any signs to know what to do going through security, and arrive late for their flight. Flights usually get delayed because of weather, not the airline. amazing.....
in the NYC area, both states NY and NJ should consider making a plan to create to much bigger airport somewhere in upstate NY or in the Woodlands of New Jersey. But I mean the biggest airport known to the world. With all the flights coming in through there then the traffic jams in the NYC area should diminish considerably.
Air travel in the usa sucks, but what can you do if travellers are not doing anything to change things. We all know that People in the usa want thing in the moment, so, people here don't really care about customer service the only thing people care is just "give it to me know". If that is not the case can you tell me why Mcdonals have 99 millions service in the world like it says in their logo.
Another poor little passanger!!!...don't cry if your flight is delayed....CRY WHEN YOU GET TO THE TIME WHERE YOU GOT NO FOOD, WHEN SOMEONE PULLS A GUN ON YOUR HEAD, SO MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH REAL TOUGH TIMES IN THEIR COUNTRIES AND THEY JUST BITE THE BULLET,,,,AND HERE YOU ARE TIPICAL CRYING GUY CUZ THE FLIGHT IS LATE....A DELAYED FLIGHT HAS A LOT OF TIMES TO DO WITH SAFETY...SO YOU DO DON'T DIE YOU......GOT IT?
You don't need to be mad at what the question is, is just a simple question of what would you do to change things. Plus, is always easy to say then do, because everyone knows that people suffer out there but does the majority of people do anything about it?
God, you bunch of squeeling babies. OOH OOH you had to sit on a runway or your flight was delayed. You poor little girls. With all the problems , it's still an unbelievably quick way to travel. It's just wasted on the instant gratification generation

What the general public has to realize is that airlines make zero money transporting the public. The profits are made via the transportation of goods.Amenities for the general public will never be in the best interest of the airline stock holders.
What I hate most about air travel is that you have to pay a lot more to be treated like a person and not a sardine. And the only people that can fix that are the people that fly. But most of society thinks there is nothing that be done and so nothing changes.
If you don't like something then fix it.The air lines will change if the number of people want it to change. Leave the goverment out of it.
All great options for getting within a metro area, but I don't think walking or riding a bike is a great way to get from NYC to SF. As for a bus and a train, those can take days for long distances, as opposed to a few hours on a jet.
James, this is a good question. To heck with all the haters. The president can do a lot about the issue. The FAA is an agent of the federal government and while I'm not certain that the Prez has direct authority over it, he certainly has a Transportation Secretary and a bully pulpit from which to make the issue headline news. The president can influence, persuade, and call in favors. I like how James comes up with ideas, questions, and suggestions that are fresh and differnt.
LOL! Security is nothing next to babies! My first flight, from Portland, Oregon to Washington, D.C. there was a 1 year old in a car seat behind me, on a middle of the night flight, where I had hoped to sleep through the long flight. I couldn't recline my seat at all & the kid cried & kicked the back of my seat the whole time!
fly Air-Pollution luxury Smogliners, Insinerator class, non-stop 8-12km up contrail-cirrus exhaust cloud smogblanket service. "Going all the way" to the end of the Earth.
I'd like to see a terrorist try to set up a lab in the airplane to build a bomb out of toothpaste and hand lotion like mcGyver. Give me a break. less freedom in america for security. Does that sound american to you?
Air travel is a luxury 95% of the world can't afford..if you're looking for "suck," try riding on a Greyhound. Of course, this silver spoon-munching turd is living in his happy-go-lucky sheltered Republican world. Your mommy and daddy payed for your plane ticket so shut the Hell up and drink your Ginger Ale.
Shut up, this man is absolutely right. It sucks. So pappelpap, before you start running your mouth, most of the people flying are doing so for business reasons. As do I. I keep the systems running that provide you with food, water, electricity, and everything else YOUR pampered ass needs. When I'm done with a hard job my knuckles are scabbed and my back hurts. The last thing I want is some moron from TSA taking away a tool of mine because it could be used as a "weapon".
I've ridden the bus with ex cons, drug abusers, thieves, gangsters, prostitutes, chip on the shoulder types who never worked or studied enough to earn that chip, and god only knows how many "that weird guy who won't stop looking at me" types, people who smelled to high heaven, loonies out of touch with reality, etc AS A CHILD! I longed and craved for air travel so much that I became an Airline pilot. I fly cargo for UPS now.
Aside from "security" which consists of an uneducated, unarmed, unfit, lifelong loser incapable of protecting a tank rifling through your valuables and ordering you to undress, flying is the most convenient way to travel. Try taking the bus!!! Those of us who grew up poor will tell you, flying is pure heaven.
James - the airline industry is a free market. If an airline (such as United) tends to be late all the time, try flying another airline like Frontier. As far as security screenings go, the only way to speed up the process is to profile... we are looking for Muslim Middle Easterners, male, aged 18 - 35... everyone else can hop on by...
But since that is not PC, everyone get's the pat-down... even granny Smith!
Could this question be any more pointless? There are far more pressing issues, both domestic and international, than uncomfortable or inconvenient air travel. And besides, what kind of authority does the president have in this anyway? What will he do, arbitrarily change the security regulations, modify design standards by presidential decree, change international air saftey conventions? I hope this questions is a joke.
As far as I know, the worst airlines are the Americas. Besides the fact that they are late and the airports are just the worst experience ever. The Airlines don't give you anything to eat for a five hour flight from DC to LA They have the worst service of all the airlines in the planet, and i have flown in many.
I have a great solution... If we all had a nifty microchip implanted in our bodies, then we could just walk by a computer and it would know everything about us. If everyone but the terrorists had one, then all the good people could just walk right onto the plane without even getting checked. Oohh.. AND if the microchips were used for buying stuff too, then only good people could buy stuff and the terrorists would just starve to death and we'd all be safer. Tee hee.
That's called the Mark of the Beast, Radio Frequency Identification. And it's coming, be assured. The mark required to buy or sell goods. The Anti-Christ movement is sprung up.
It only needs the Beast (America), Mouth (president), and the false prophet (who gets mistaken for the "anti-christ" movement).
The false prophet brings peace after a long war with Gog and Magog (Iran + either Turkey or Russia, my bet's on Russia).
On Oct 1 Homeland Security opens a new office called the National Applications Office charged with domestic intelligence gathering.
NAO will approve law enforcement requests to access spy satellite data (which can see within INCHES of the ground). That approval will be granted through inhouse review, WITH NO JUDICIAL OVERSIGHT.
This is a clear violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.
POLICE WILL BE ALLOWED TO LOOK INTO YOUR BACKYARD WITH NO WARRANT, NO COURT ORDER, NO JUDICIAL OVERSIGHT, NO JOKE!
You see "liberals" or anyone with a common sense have with the regulations etc, is that most of the screenings etc are there for "show" to make people "feel" secure. It is a total illusion and if people really want to get in the plane to blow it up or take it and fly into buildings they will. Those security measures in the airport etc, anyone with half a brain and access to some materials would be able to circumvent them.
It sounds like you would want to live in a world where your security was guaranteed at all costs. I agree that security is very important, but if it comes at the cost of losing the things that the United States was founded on protecting, then don't you think we need to rethink our priorities? I mean I definitely don't want to get blown up man. But I also don't want to get hauled into a room and cavity searched because my name is similar to some one else's name.
What's the room in the middle? What specifically can the Federal Government do to move airline security into the "middle"? It's one thing to wax philosophically (and to speak generally), it's another thing entirely to prescribe specific courses of action. Again, what specifically can the Federal government do that to improve wait times, etc?
What do *you* propose happen to improve air travel? You want Hillary or Rudy to waive a magic wand and just make air traffic disappear? Dude, get real.
You said that air travel in this country is "getting worse." Define "getting worse." Here's a solution: If you don't like flying, TAKE A BUS OR A TRAIN!
People like you whine for no other reason than to simply whine. TSA's, whether effective or not, are here for safety. Look at airport safety in Israel. It's much more stringent.
If I were president, I would invest in a high speed train system. Airplanes aren't worth riding unless my seat is dirt cheap or I'm on a private charter.
My question is, how do foreign airlines run their businesses? I hear stories (never been personally) about the FANTASTIC service elsewhere, so there IS a working economic set-up for airlines out there. Why are ours so sucky??? There has to be a way for them to run a successful business without turning us into cattle, and turning airlines into a gov't branch will NOT help.
Ron Paul thinks the Airlines should police the planes. If armed cars can be looked after by private companies then why not passengers looked after and kept safe by airlines. Unfortunately this would result in prejudice and some people would be denigned air travel becasue of personal factors. Others would hop on plains with a gatelin gun pointing at them from the pilots door. So James bad but could be worse.
ya it would lead to prejudice lol. because these companies are private companies to begin with.. if they don't like you and won't let you go on board there's nothing you can do about it. so pick another airline.. i'm not paying taxes so you can use my money to force others abiding by your own "weird" principle. i don't give a damn about your style of social justice and i should have the right to deny payment to these stupid ideas.
In spite of the complaints of the 'shallowness' of the question, it really forces the candidate to answer intelligently. They can't say they'll just reduce security b/c that is unpatriotic; they can't just say they'll open more airports b/c the industry is already in financial trouble. It seems that by asking a rather simple question one might be able to break through the exterior of rhetoric and prepared answers?
Well God Bless ya for taking on this issue...Flying sucks now. American is in the black finally but the workers are FULL of Attitude. Asking for water is like asking to borrow $100 from them. Hope your successful....
The people who run the airport security have been difficult in their jobs since the last time they screwed up, (Cough Cough 9-11) They have to be one step in front of the terrorist BESIDES, REMEMBER THE PICTURES OF THE TERRORIST!! THEY WERE DRESSED LIKE YOU! IN A SUIT AND FRESHLY SHAVED! THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE A BACKROUND CHECK ON YOU! BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING, AND WERE SAFE IN THE SKYS! GOOD JOB AIRPORT SECURITY! Please respond, I'd love to debate this.
Ohh...close one! Finished just as the Captain started speaking! lol
Great question James, we have a lot of people annoyed with the air traffic situation here in the UK too.
However, I do think we should be very careful in terms of security...I believe banning liquids in hand luggage was the right step. (I'm not a frequent flyer however, so maybe I would be very annoyed if I flew more)
Well that maybe truth, but with the popularity and seriousness of his channel he can ask the really hard questions: the war in Iraq, health care, and such!
Having been to through an American airport, the airports have done a good job to cut down the bureaucracy and red tape in regards to entering the country (They're no where near as bad as British Airways) but they could go even further if there was less government regulation and they subsidise new entrants into the market to promote competition.
Maybe its because I went to Canada instead of the US, but I've never had any issues with airport security. I really don't see why people moan about it.
You have no idea what the people living or going to USA is going through. It has dragged down the rest of the world a little in it's hypocratic security theater but it has yet reach the insanity of USA!

What the general public has to realize is that airlines make zero money transporting the public. The profits are made via the transportation of goods.Amenities for the general public will never be in the best interest of the airline stock holders.
Gumbythetruth 4 years ago
if they didn't make any money doing it, they would just transport cargo. they could easily fit more cargo in the cabin than people.
friedenmeister 4 years ago
What I hate most about air travel is that you have to pay a lot more to be treated like a person and not a sardine. And the only people that can fix that are the people that fly. But most of society thinks there is nothing that be done and so nothing changes.
If you don't like something then fix it.The air lines will change if the number of people want it to change. Leave the goverment out of it.

You could always walk? Catch the bus, take a train, ride your bike?
timbo35067 4 years ago

Air travel is a luxury 95% of the world can't afford..if you're looking for "suck," try riding on a Greyhound. Of course, this silver spoon-munching turd is living in his happy-go-lucky sheltered Republican world. Your mommy and daddy payed for your plane ticket so shut the Hell up and drink your Ginger Ale.
pappelpap 4 years ago

Bill1275w 4 years ago
Aside from "security" which consists of an uneducated, unarmed, unfit, lifelong loser incapable of protecting a tank rifling through your valuables and ordering you to undress, flying is the most convenient way to travel. Try taking the bus!!! Those of us who grew up poor will tell you, flying is pure heaven.
Bill1275w 4 years ago

I hope this questions is a joke.
morganeh 4 years ago
As far as I know, the worst airlines are the Americas. Besides the fact that they are late and the airports are just the worst experience ever. The Airlines don't give you anything to eat for a five hour flight from DC to LA They have the worst service of all the airlines in the planet, and i have flown in many.
barpaza 4 years ago
Define "good service." I've flown on interational carriers as well as domestic. I've noticed no difference between these two.

We could support nude airline flights, except then the black people would be in an uproar over the frequent checking of their packages for weapons.
bt071971 4 years ago

POLICE WILL BE ALLOWED TO LOOK INTO YOUR BACKYARD WITH NO WARRANT, NO COURT ORDER, NO JUDICIAL OVERSIGHT, NO JOKE!

oh ok, so by your standards, you want us to stop being safe and just let anybody get on a plane without screening them for dangerous materials.

Xatticus 4 years ago
EXACTLY! Right on, Xatticus!
avirgoisee 4 years ago
You see "liberals" or anyone with a common sense have with the regulations etc, is that most of the screenings etc are there for "show" to make people "feel" secure. It is a total illusion and if people really want to get in the plane to blow it up or take it and fly into buildings they will. Those security measures in the airport etc, anyone with half a brain and access to some materials would be able to circumvent them.
kuryamtl 4 years ago
dude it's not an all or nothing situation. can't they have good screening techniques that maybe are somewhat of a delay but also reasonable?
shatterjack 4 years ago
they would have to have good screening checks in the first place, nevermind delays.
kuryamtl 4 years ago
It sounds like you would want to live in a world where your security was guaranteed at all costs. I agree that security is very important, but if it comes at the cost of losing the things that the United States was founded on protecting, then don't you think we need to rethink our priorities? I mean I definitely don't want to get blown up man. But I also don't want to get hauled into a room and cavity searched because my name is similar to some one else's name.
shatterjack 4 years ago
That's what I mean by reasonable. They are two extremes and I think there is some room in the middle, don't you think?
shatterjack 4 years ago
What's the room in the middle? What specifically can the Federal Government do to move airline security into the "middle"? It's one thing to wax philosophically (and to speak generally), it's another thing entirely to prescribe specific courses of action. Again, what specifically can the Federal government do that to improve wait times, etc?
avirgoisee 4 years ago
What do *you* propose happen to improve air travel? You want Hillary or Rudy to waive a magic wand and just make air traffic disappear? Dude, get real.

RoddyYoung 4 years ago 2
ya it would lead to prejudice lol. because these companies are private companies to begin with.. if they don't like you and won't let you go on board there's nothing you can do about it. so pick another airline.. i'm not paying taxes so you can use my money to force others abiding by your own "weird" principle. i don't give a damn about your style of social justice and i should have the right to deny payment to these stupid ideas.

I'd love to see how one might answer this.

Having been to through an American airport, the airports have done a good job to cut down the bureaucracy and red tape in regards to entering the country (They're no where near as bad as British Airways) but they could go even further if there was less government regulation and they subsidise new entrants into the market to promote competition.
