  • Very nice Matuka. Thanks for sharing this.

  • An interesting & extremely well-tied variation on my father's original pattern. Thanks for sharing!

  • Hi stephencollyer,

I appreciate your kind words, and if I have tyed your fathers fly and gave it the justice it deserves then I'm very happy...

    All the best Davie

  • This is a nice small streamer. It is a streamer, isn't it?

For what kind of fish you need this? Can I use it for perch or small pike?

    With compliments.

  • Hi dutchflyfisher,

Yes you could call it a small streamer pattern which is a very good allround fly for brown trout, rainbows and even perch, I have caught pike on it myself but I was fishing for trout at the time...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie, great fly, the only ingredient i haven't got is the mallard is there an alternative feather i could use. Regards Alan

  • Hi Alan,

The bronze mallard is the best feather to use but if you have a brown feather or hair then this would do...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Dave i have been tying for a few years and noticed that you break off your waste instead of cutting is there a reason for this.

  • Hi MrBoab01,

I break the thread only to speed up the tying but to be honest you can waste a lot of thread doing this.

    All the best Davie

  • Davie, Would you be kind enough to list the materials you used in this fly? I am most specifically interested in the feathers used. Thank you for the wonderful sessions.

  • Hi vonbunmeister,

    Here's a list of the materials I used;

    Hook, Kamazan B175 size 8

    Thread, Black Uni-Thread 8/0 or 6/0

    Ribs, Silver wire and Tinsel

    Body, Black Chenille

Matuka Wing, Three to Four Hen Hackles dyed black..

    Throat, Guinea Fowl

    Wing, Bronze Mallard

    All the best Davie

  • Is that just your run of the mill chenille?

  • Hi cancerkid888,

The chenille I used is a mix between a translusent friz and a chenille. I prefer this type as it's not too bulky and as well when its wet it has a nice shine to it, I bought it in the Glasgow Angling Centre a few year s ago I'm not sure if they still do it...

    All the best Davie

  • Great video as usual.. Are you going to be doing the Dark Spruce Fly any time soon?

  • Did you work at Springwater fishery???

Thats one of my favourite fisheries. Coyal Water being my personal favourite.

  • ARE YOU STILL AT SPRINGWATRE FSHERY?

  • Hi rjMcGough,

No, I haven't worked at Springwater for over two years and WEESTRAWZ I worked at the fishery for more than fourteen years...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie, finally got my hands on the LAWS. Really makes a difference. I've got hands like the honey monster but now I can get right into a size sixteen. Thanks for giving me the address.

  • Very Nice pattern Peaty,

What kind of hook are you using? Looks like a partridge.

  • Hi snolover84,

The hook I used in the video is a Kamazan B175 size 8..

    All the best Davie

  • Thanks. A great looking fly. I look forward to making and then using it.

  • The matuka is a very effective streamer with the brown trouts, overcoat in black, brown colors...

    Good fly.

  • July in Pennsylvania, the end of the dance for great trout fishing. We either head to the small streams to catch small fish or some of we sinners go bass fishing. Killer fly for smallies. Thanks for another great one Davie.
